Are there spools in the box that the bobbins sit on or are they just long open spaces? Wish they had more pics.

No . . .just long space with dividers. Nothing to prevent bobbins from spinning and thread to become tangled each time it's moved. Consider the Bobbin Saver, which holds bobbins tight in a donut shape so they can't spin off thread. I threw this case away after dealing with the messy tangled thread each time I needed a bobbin.

would the box hold sewing machine brothers bobbins?

I would think so. I haven't filled it yet, since it is a gift for my granddaughter and she has a Brother machine. In the case there are 5 rows and each row is 1" wide and 1-1/8" high and 3" long. Hope that helps.

Can I buy a bobbin box with filled bobbins?

I have never seen this box available full of bobbins. It is a perfect size for your bobbins. I pre fill several of the color thread I am using so I don't have to stop my project to refill a bobbin. When you buy bobbins buy the exact size for your machine and from the manufacturer of your machine also. I purchased some bobbins from some name I had never heard from and threw them away - then bought the brother bobbins.
