Space Hulk Ascension - Playstation 4 PS4

Fun, tense strategy game. A lot to wrap your head around at first though and the interface can be super finicky and buggy, especially when AP calculation is involved, so save early and often. Don't rely on autosaves either since the game has corrupted my data at least once.

Great game and flow. Feels like the table top game and very enjoyable.

This is a review for the PS4 version of the game:I remember playing the original Space Hulk computer game back in the early 90's and between the nostalgia and enjoying Deathwatch on the iPhone, I figured this would be good.Graphics are decent, but not fantastic. I particularly like the "head camera" view in the upper right so you can see the field from the view of the Terminator at the same time that you work in the "world" view on the rest of the screen.Music and sound effects are great. Particularly enjoy the drips and echoes of the genestealers cries to put you on edge.Gameplay is good but could be so much better. Bear in mind this is the PS4 version only. I suspect the PC version is much easier to manage.The game is flawed with many glitches- AP counts are not accurate at the start of the turn, you sometimes have to pause and continue the game to get your team plates to show up on the bottom of the screen. The AP count issue is of particular concern, because you can sometimes lose the opportunity to go into overwatch because you thought you had more AP points than you really have.Even button controls are not very intuitive. Sometimes I had to spend 10-15 minutes to get a Terminator activated on my team because the button sequence was difficult to follow. There is no manual which this desperately needs. The in-game "manual" is virtually useless, because it tells you what to do to activate/deactivate something, but does not tell you what buttons to press. Supremely frustrating. Not a good sign when you are struggling to figure out what to do when playing the tutorial and there is zero help available.Once you get past that major issue, the game is actually fun to play. I have not gotten through the whole game yet, but what I have played so far is challenging but not insurmountable. Would have given more stars, but the button issue and severe lack of help is very off-putting.

Amazing game but do not buy for PS4!! The game is unplayable from glitches. Save files get corrupted and once you progress into the game you cannot even reload the better weapons you unlock. There are several blogs on this and how the makers have no intention of fixing the broken PS4 port. A real shame. If they ever came back and patched the numerous glitches I would give 5 stars.
