Quiet, Powerful, and Built to Last
The Makita XMT04ZB is everything you want in an oscillating multi-tool. It’s surprisingly quiet, delivers plenty of power, and feels rock-solid in the hand. The build quality is exactly what you’d expect from Makita—durable, reliable, and clearly made for serious work.Whether you’re cutting, sanding, or scraping, it handles every task with ease.Friendly reminder: this model uses the Starlock blade system, so be sure to grab the right blades if you’re upgrading from a standard-fit tool.A great addition to any tool kit. Highly recommended.

Man oh man where to begin this tool is like god it’s self the vibration on the thing is non exciting the built of it is like a 1989 ford freaking ranger it’ll last for the rest of your life makita makes a quality tool that will last longer than your wife. It cuts through anything and I mean anything like it was butter with a 5.0 it’ll last all day long the weight is not to heavy it is a bit bulky but it fits perfectly in my hand I’m a big dude so if you have little baby hands I don’t recommend this is a great tool with amazing specs and great handling I would recommend buying into this brand if you’re already on the platform it’s better. It being brushless and black it looks super nice and cool. The speed adjuster is super easy to use and easy to find.

Rough Framing Metal Studs
I've used this tool for a few months now, bought in April of 2024 (this year). It's worked very well, I had to buy better blades to get its full potential, Diablo not cheap chinese crap. I have used the diablo blades to cut through track on the foundation, this thing warms up a bit after 10 minutes of heavy use, but it powers through the metal studs no problem and it doesn't get hot, just warm. If you have concrete dust on the ground you'll wanna wear a respirator because this thing vibrates the dust into the air then the fan kicks it high so you breathe it, it's also extremely loud (when cutting metal, but is no louder than a drill when used on wood or drywall), but that's fine with ear protection. Nice clean line, too. I'm going to get one of these, and a hammer-drill for my sister as a basic toolkit that imo everyone should own, even renters. It's an oscillating sander, and a great saw. I had the old Makita oscillating multi-tool and this is indeed worth the money. Reduced vibration, I can use my 6a batteries so I get better battery life, better grip, nicely weighted. It's a quality tool. Looking forward to the OSHA attachment to for my rotary hammer, so the dust won't be an issue again.

Excellent
I bought this on a really good deal around Christmas time, not knowing how much I would use or need it. Well, color me impressed. This thing is amazing and I keep finding a reason to use it. The starlock blade change system is about as easy as it comes. Yes there more expensive, but worth it in my opinion. If you need to do any sanding in tight places, the sanding attachment is incredible as well. If you're on the makita platform, give this a look, it is well worth the investment.

Fantastic Oscillating Tool Can Do HUNDREDS of Weird Jobs!
Bought this to replace a Makita XMT02 feeble oscillating tool whose hammer head snapped loose inside. I'd wondered why its instructions said "Use only 3A battery". Turns out the higher amp batteries cause the tool to work harder/faster and that over stresses the feeble hammer. This NEW XMT04 model is 500% superior design to the old tool as well as the slightly cheaper XMT-03, still available. Anti-Vibration-Technology in the new design suppresses nearly all shaking that oppresses most oscillation tools, that leads to intense, painful, carpal user fatigue. I can use the XMT-04 for eight hours straight, going through a pile of 3A, 4A, and 5A Makita and clone batteries, without ANY wrist pain! This new tool ONLY fits Starlock blades, however. That includes the longer Plus blades and Max blades, too. But personally, unless you need the longer REACH a Max blade offers, for some tough assignments, you might be better served to use less expensive Starlock (standard) blades and concentrate on TEETH style to help do your task. AVT also protects your batteries from vibration damage; especially important if you use clone power cells. BEST size LXT batteries for this tool are 4A and 5A units. 6A tends to overheat if used in long stretches, and may stress the tool unnecessarily. 3A works fine but power-on time is less. XMT-04 includes NO blades or adapters, or carry case, by default.

Very Smooth
Have been waiting for this for a long time. My old Fein multi-tool was on its last legs and I wanted a new cordless one. Having bought into the Makita cordless platform years ago, it made sense to get the Makita 18V multi-tool. The problem was it did not stack up so well against the competition. I don't necessarily have to have the latest and greatest tools, but as a pro I want something that performs as well as, or close to what's available. For one thing, it wasn't brushless, which will effect run time. Finally Makita pulled its thumb out and built this XMT04ZB. I have only had it a week so my feelings may change, but so far I'm impressed. I'll be curious to see how it compares to the other brands in side by side reviews or tests. The first thing you notice is the size. It is a bit bulky. So far this has not been an issue. With the battery it is well balanced and comfortable. I'm assuming the reason for the bulky head is due to how it performs. By that I mean it is powerful, but really quiet (compared to other models), and almost completely free of any vibrations. This thing is so smooth! It's a joy to use. Like the other top brands this has a brushless motor and a quick tool-less blade change feature. The LED light on the head is handy, and it accepts the 3 different Starlock types of blades. I hope to find an adaptor so that I can use other brand blades and generics. So far it looks like this is only being sold as "tool only". I for one like most of my tools stored in hard plastic cases. I really hope Makita makes a specific hard-case for this.
