The past surfaces.
A dead body found, but she has been missing for years. Why now, had she returned to a place of abuse and bad memories?A historic covered up scandal of abuse at a children's home. Set up presumably with good intentions, but causing so much pain and still haunting the lives of past victims. The main abuser was living his life with illness ruling it.The victims had married, some to those outside the circle of abuse, who had offered them love and comfort as they saw it. But still servicing their now husband like they had years ago as an escape.Identified, the question remains, where had she been and why had she left her husband and son.The other victims and perpetrators are spooked when the police start asking questions. Everyone interviewed is holding something back, Tamara and Jannsen are convinced hey are trying to hide the past. A past death, a current apparent suicide.Where does it all lead and who is willing to kill to keep the past where they believe it belongs.Very good read, with Jannsen's personal life affecting his usual clear thinking.

A good, well written British police drama.
By that title I mean it follows what one perceives as a true to life murder case using realistic lead characters solving crimes using good old fashioned detective work... not an all guns blazing American style drama. We've seen the main cast develop over the series and can feel empathy with their emotions, actions and reactions. As such it gentles along and being a novel you always anticipate they will solve the case in the end so there are few major shocks but it is an enjoyable read.

Good plots and interesting characters.
Well worth a read if you enjoy detective stories that are not too dark or gruesome.

Kill our sins.
Got to know the characters in the book. The plots are very good, always a twist at the end. But I think there is too much detail of the Investigating teams personel lives when I would rather get on with the plot. However the books do give a veiw on how the system works.
