Q: What is the depth of these speakers?

They are 3.25" deep. Make sure the cavity is clear as the PC board on back uses the entire space

Q: I bought 2 of these for a house I am buying and I don’t think the installers can install them in my ceiling. Would these be good sides?

I am not sure why It can be install on the ceiling. The ceiling is the best place where it should be, for the look and the quality of sound. If I was you, I will pay someone for dry wall repair to get it done right. If you want it on your side wall the rectangular might be your choice. They are great speaker. I installed them everywhere in my house.
