I should have listened.
I looked at the reviews on Amazon and still chanced it. Boy was I wrong. Bought this for a `96 XJ Cherokee w/ 4.0 and I have to say I was highly disappointed. When I buy a pair of Edelbrock heads for a V8, I understand when some models require machining. When I buy a aftermarket "hot rod" parts to modify an engine, I understand when they need modifications to fit. When I buy a factory replacement "no mods necessary to improve function" part from a manufacturer with a long history in the Jeep community, I expect them to fit and fit correctly. A little casting flash? Meh, no problem. But this? I had to grind entirely too much material from the inside to get a thermostat to fit outside of a tiny window of perfect orientation - in an engine where the Tstat is mounted vertically! Not anywhere near acceptable. The only reason I'm not requesting a refund is that the part has obviously been drastically modified. Get a cheaper Dorman or Four Seasons or what have you. They don't get any worse than this for a 90's XJ Cherokee. You WILL be seating on the Tstat making gasket seal iffy unless you do a bunch (I'm guessing about 1/8") of grinding to the inside of the housing. Completely unacceptable. Move on, next option please. Nothing to see here. Don't do it. Run, don't walk, away. Quickly.Edit (8/5/21 - 1 day after installation.)I wish I could give this Zero Stars. So after having to clearance the inside of the housing to fit with a Stant thermostat, I was disappointed. Now? After it cracked in THE NECK nowhere near where I ground out material (in the bulb area)? I'm totally and utterly dissatisfied. Bought a cheap one from the local parts store. Fits fine and no leaks or the cracks that they come from. So take my advice:"Move on, next option please. Nothing to see here. Don't do it. Run, don't walk, away. Quickly."There is literally nothing good to see here.
