After taking magnesium for a couple of months, I've come to the conclusion that magnesium is one of the most underrated and important minerals that is lacking in our diets. It has had a profound effect on my health on multiple levels.I originally learned about the importance of magnesium from a health program I heard on the radio. My job I had at the time was fairly physical and had me walking great distances from day to day. As a result, I was in fairly decent physical shape; however, I would often wake up in the morning with horrendous charlie horses -- the type that would cramp up so bad that I would sometimes yell out in pain. After learning the info about magnesium on the radio, I ordered a bottle and started taking the tablets (this was before Superior Labs capsules). This cleared up, or at least softened, the charlie horses. The tablets were probably not the most effective as they most likely contained much of the magnesium form magnesium oxide, which in my experience is very inefficient -- but at least it had me on the right track.Fast forward about a decade. I had quit the job that had me walking miles a day and thus stopped taking magnesium supplements. But after I started playing recreational sports and doing weight bearing exercises, the muscle cramps came back. Not necessarily charlie horses, but any muscle that had gone through vigorous use. Also, my joints (particularly the knees) were always very sore after intense exercise. When I would get home from playing sports, I would be limping up the stairs to go to the shower. I was beginning to feel like an old man, which is way too soon for a guy like me in his early 30's. After some research for joint relief, I started taking powdered collagen, This helped with the sore joints a lot; not a complete cure, but say a 75% reduction (especially in the knees). The muscle soreness and cramps were still present, however. I then remembered my old friend magnesium. After some deeper research on magnesium forms, I came across Superior Labs Magnesium Citrate. As the title implies, it's Magnesium Citrate and only Magnesium Citrate; no useless magnesium oxide or magnesium stearate. The effects have been profound.For one, my muscles don't cramp up anymore, whether after weight bearing exercise or intense cardio from running around playing sports. When I get up from sleep in the morning I don't feel tight at all like I used to. My joints are no longer sore, even right after intense running from sports which are hard on the knees. Another unexpected effect was energy recovery after intense cardio. Before magnesium, after running hard the rest period afterwards would often have me breathing hard for a while afterwards. After magnesium, my breathing and heart rate come down much quicker, so much so that even some of my teammates noticed and were amazed that I wasn't red faced and breathing hard like they were after a game (and all my teammates are younger than I). Magnesium also does seem to have a calming effect and my stress levels don't seem to get as high as they used to.In conclusion, the basic diet of modern man is devoid of many important vitamins and minerals - many of which are needed for the body to function correctly. Magnesium, it seems to me, is one of the most important but undervalued minerals that is lacking in today's diet. For the body to operate optimally, magnesium is essential. I would highly recommend supplementing with Superior Labs magnesium citrate.

What is expected

This has been a miracle drug for me. I suffer from IBS-CIC and have been prescribed medication for this condition for over a year, but have had symptoms for several years. I changed insurance and my medication was no longer covered - to the tune of almost $1k a month! I am a female and also hope to get pregnant in the future and this past prescription was not safe for pregnant women - so I decided to try something new. I read that magnesium was safe for pregnant women so I decided to give it a try. First off, I only took this medication to help with my stomach/bowel movements. And it works! Even better than the prescription! The prescription was a bit harsh - would cause cramping and even occasional diarrhea (sorry for TMI - I just hope this review helps others in my position!)…not to mention, I wasn't completely comfortable with its lack of safety. After taking a high dose of this Magnesium Citrate however, I feel like a normal person again! It's completely gentle! The first day I took it, I could feel my tummy "rumble" a bit when the medicine kicked in, but now it is totally smooth sailing. Let me also say that I have tried EVERYTHING - Milk of Magnesia; complete change of diet - no dairy, no gluten, high fiber - EVERYTHING; enemas; harsh laxatives; all natural laxatives -- literally everything. Second, I did not expect to get any other benefits from this medicine - but I got them anyway! I've always suffered from twitching in my eye which drives me crazy. Since taking this medicine - completely gone! Not only that, but my legs cramps and constant muscle/neck aches are no more! I also have not had a single headache since taking this pill - which I used to have daily. That may be due to the lack of tension in my back/neck…or possible something different. Regardless, I am thrilled. Finally, I have also had SO much better sleep with this medicine! I take my final dose at bed time and snooze like a baby. Honestly, I have never felt stronger about a supplement/drug in my life. It's changed my entire quality of living. Highly recommend!!!

I like Superior Labs products and feel I am getting what I need without extra added stuff.

I was having very painful leg cramps at night. And it's not as though I slept well to begin with; I used to take melatonin, but it no longer agrees with me (nightmares and morning grogginess, even at 1 ml). Bach's Rescue Sleep helped, but not enough. So I researched the supplements that are supposed to help leg cramps and sleep. None of them looked likely as being deficiencies, given my diet. And as it turns out, I especially eat a LOT of foods that are high in magnesium. But after a particularly bad night, I decided to order this supplement anyway.Big surprise. The leg cramps ceased, and I was able to get to sleep--and stay asleep--without my usual natural arsenal.My advice: if you have problems sleeping and/or leg cramps, don't depend on diet to supply what you need. Apparently some of us need more. I take this supplement at night (and though the label recommends food, I've had no problems taking it on an empty stomach). So far, it has worked like a charm.Update, 5/7/2019: I still use this every night of my life, and I would not think of running out of it; for that reason, it is a regular feature of my Subscribe-and-Save shipments. One capsule is usually plenty for me. If my legs spasm at all during the day, though, I take two capsules that night.I am updating simply because I was looking for zinc and B-6 supplements today, and among the options that came up were the combo supplements called ZMA that also contain magnesium. I won't use those, and that's entirely because I'm not willing to give up the magnesium I'm already taking.This is a keeper, in other words.
