Hot Wheelsid FXB53 Race Portal {Smart Track System for Hot Wheels}, Multi Color

I purchased this to use for myself. I grew up in the 70s playing with Hot Wheels and saw the new ID cars and portal. I thought what the heck I'll give it a go. I use the Hot Wheels ID cars on my Samsung Galaxy S9 cell phone, Android OS. I got my phone over two years ago. I have had no problem with bluetooth connectivity. Not sure what some of these reviews are going on about not being able to connect if your device isn't brand new.The Hot Wheels ID cars have a NFC chip inside. When using the Hot Wheels ID racing game app, which you can download. I place the cars right up to the back of my phone, my phone reads the NFC chip and bam they are in the game. This Hot Wheels portal device allows you to do the same thing if your device does not have an NFC reader just via buetooth. There are specific competitions in the game app where you use this portal. What this thing does is keeps track of your speed and laps via 4 little "eyes" in the track. You can also attach the HotWheels smart track or normal track to this portal and use it as a stand alone raceway. Or you can even bring your physical track into the mobile device app. Giving this 5 stars. It works well and is well thought out to connect a game app and the physical world. My boy is over the Moon with this thing. He loves it. Tells me all the time how fast his cars go. It feels overpriced, but sometimes it is hard to put a price tag on smiles.

The only dislike is my son has a fire 8 tablet that i was hoping to have him use with the Hotwheels id portal. Unfortunately you have to have either Google play or apple store to get app. I even tried to install Google play on his fire but still is not compatible with app. So make sure whatever device you are going to have kids use the app on is compatible.

The kids love this. Normally they grow tired of playing with their Hot Wheels cars pretty quickly, but this provides "measurables" that makes them stick with it, try different cars, different track configurations, etc. We don't have the full track, just the ID Portal, and there is still a lot you can do with it. I'm sort of mixed on letting them use a tablet or phone so much instead of just physical play, but at least the physical play is the biggest component of this.It is pretty easy to set up the bluetooth connectivity between the portal and a device, and the kids can basically turn it on and off and connect to a device without needing me to do it every time.I only reviewed this at 4 stars because YOU CANNOT USE AN AMAZON FIRE TABLET with this. There is no Amazon ID Portal application on the Amazon AppStore, and even if you go through the steps to install the Google Play store on your Fire, it doesn't show up. I've read that it is because the app requires 3GB of RAM, and the Fire tablets only have 2GB. Thus, you will have to use another brand of tablet or give them your phone or something. When we bought it, this was not completely clear, and we were totally planning on them using one of several Fire tablets we already own. I'm hoping that this is fixed at some point.

This is for hotwheels iD if you don’t have the ID cars with the chip under it won’t do much for you ,but if you do open up a lot of fun with interactive game on the tablet. And records speed of cars and lap times.

It worked great right out of the box. The app makes the portal more fun. The interaction with the app and portal is really cool.

I was honestly extremely excited about this product and had even set up a custom track for its arrival, but arrival day came I set everything up, it connects with the blue tooth on my iPhone 6s just fine, annnnnnnnnnnd nothing! So I try to troubleshoot it, and then I see tucked away on their official site under the FAQ, "iPhone 7, iPhone 8, iPhone X, iPad Air 2, iPad 5th Generation (2017), iPad 6th Generation (2018), iPad Pro, 10.5-inch iPad Pro. (2016 and newer devices recommended)" So yeah because I don't upgrade my phone every year, and because I'm not a tablet person I got screwed! This was honestly a massive waste of my time, and money. Mattel should clearly state this on the page, because it's not there, it's only in the reviews do you see this.

Works as expected. Scans cars and you can play games with them. I can't say anything to use with the smart track but with standard hot wheels track it works perfectly. I always like putting it at the bottom of a hill or right after a speed booster to get scale speeds of the vehicles.This product only works with hot wheels id cars so you won't be able to read standard vehicles. Race portal comes with two ID cars as well. Twinmill works perfectly for any type of track but the other included vehicle seems to struggle on loops and sharp turns.
