Good for beginners
If it’s your first time like it was mines this is a really good product. All you need is about 2inches as a base and river Sand on top. Then rocks and drift wood and some live plants. Start with guppies they have a stronger survival chances.

Plants are happy. My first attempt at live aquarium plants
I'm fairly new to aquarium plants, but this substrate seems to be working very well. I have 10 plants and only one has died (I think I put it where it didn't get enough light). I have one plant growing almost an inch a day. I put it in a 75 gallon tank and I think I need 2-3 bags to get the required depth. Instead, I just put my other rocks on top, mainly to hold some of the more floaty plants down.If this noob can do it, then you have a pretty good chance at success.

Great stuff
Quality product. First thing to notice is the bag is vacuum-sealed. Obviously this won't last forever, but goes a long way to minimize the granules from shifting in transit and pulverizing itself. Upon opening the bag, the next thing I found was there was zero dust. In comparison, a bag of Fluval Stratum (not vacuum-sealed) will have a healthy portion of dust but also the granules seem to disintegrate much too easily. The Landen granule structure seems to be much tougher and the grains will likely hold up better over time.If your main option for aqua-soil comes from a big pet store, you might be better off going with Landen. Do your research but also take the time to compare prices.

a bit too much but it definitely seems to be top of the line soil for aquarium needs.
i've bought this soil bout 3 times now for separate tanks. fish seem to be ok with it, hornworts are thriving but i have this red plant that always seems to struggle, dont think its a soil issue though, i just get em through free add on complimentary when i buy two other plants. my cory's will dive in there when i try to catch em lol slippery buggers lol. no issue here. perhaps one might need fertilizer for certain plants, but like i said, its definitely a top of the line substrate. you can keep looking into other soils but eventually you'll come back to this. its inevitable, trust me i tried lol.

Looks great. Parameters are stable.
I bought this before the price increased to do a reset on a couple of marineland portrait tanks, one for a friend and one of mine. They both looks great and the soil continues to buffer the water just fine. PH (according to the API test) stays around 6.6 (could be 6.5 but it's definitely higher than 6.4). It did take longer for the tank to reestablish than other soil tanks I've set up. There was crazy diatom growth for a good six months. Most of my crypts melted, but that's how crypts do. They're all fine now. Once all that settled, I FINALLY got my first blue bolts and shadow pandas and they have been doing very well for just over six months. The parameters are still stable.
