Q: can you set motion zones to avoid certain areas

Yes you can and it is very easy to set up and also to undo or change the restrictions. If you do get one or 4 as I have, make sure you scan the OR code and register it to your Wi-fi before you put it up. It’s a pain if you install it and then have to either take it down again at try to do it whilst up a ladder.

Q: Can this work without WiFi after the initial set up?

Yes of course. The wifi is only for play back of recorded media and for settings.or for live playback of what the camera is pointing at. The camera saves its recordings to the sd card not supplied. However if you buy a good high write capable 64gb micro sd card you dont need the wifi after set up. Of course if you want to view your events you would have to take out the sd card and put it into a viewing device such as laptop. Tablet mobile phone or pc to view play back.
