Very helpful book
I bought this for my daughter to try and get a handle on managing her neurodivergent 5 year old. She has put into practice several things in the book and it has made a remarkable improvement in behaviors in her daughter.

extremely informative for anyone with a sensory processing kiddo!
When my son got his diagnosis at 4 I had no idea where to begin, how to parent and “discipline - teach” him. I found the book took the words straight from my mouth on how I was thinking and feeling. It gave excellent resources and evidence based research throughout the chapters and excellent advice and ways to target a seeker/avoiders needs.

Excellent Information for Parents
We have a child who has been struggling in certain areas, and SPD has been brought up in our regular pediatrician appointments. I read this book ahead of some assessments we have scheduled to feel better prepared for that discussion. This had such great information that has helped us tune into triggers for our child and change some little things at home to help while we wait on the formal assessments. It's helped me be more understanding as to why my child may be reacting in certain ways and made me feel more empowered as a parent to be an advocate for my child.

Not what I thought
For 31$ I thought it would be on 8 1/2 by 11 paper that was like typing paper not approximately 5 by 8 and newspaper quality paper. Love the spiral bound style. It is a good companion for the audio book.

BEST Sensory Book ever!
Having read all the books in this genre, I'm particualarly impressed with this one written by Lindsey Biel and nancy Peske. The book is PACKED with information and I find myself using it often as a reference. The authors start with understaning your child (and I find this helps understand yourself and family too!). They explain the seven senses in detail and how and why their functioning is important and how their senses alter their behavior. The next section is about working with Occupational Therapists and how YOU can help your child at home, in school and in the community. They go through EVERYTHING; from eating (at home and in restaurants - including special feeding issues!), potty training, the dreaded birthday parties and family get togethers, and much more...How to decorate and make your house more sensory friendly is explored as well as how to advocate for your child in their school. It's seriously a one stop shop book. There is too much info for me to list - it's all in there. The writers are clear and discriptive, making a sometimes difficult subject matter easy to understand and apply to your every day life.A MUST READ section is "Quick Tips for Calming an Overwhelmed Child." Thank you, thank you, thank you for this priceless advise. This book is fabulous!

Best book out there for Sensory Processing Disorder
This is hands down the best book dealing with Sensory Processing Disorder (SPD). It has helped my family in so many ways. My now 3-year-old son was diagnosed with SPD a little over a year ago, so I started reading anything I could find about SPD. What I love about this book is it is so easy to read, and the real-life experiences are so real and easy to relate to. Anyone who has ever met my son would be able to recognize him and his "quirks" after reading just the first chapter. I have recommended this book to all his speech therapists and occupational therapists, and the therapists have started recommending the book to the rest of their SPD clients. My son just started a developmental preschool program and I will be buying another copy for his teacher. Integrating a sensory diet into my son's daily routines has helped us more than I thought possible. He is a completely different child when he gets the sensory input he needs in a safe and fun way. His speech and comprehension is drastically improved after heavy physical activity--sometimes we just run from one end of the house to the other--over and over and over. I highly recommend this book. You will learn so much, and you and the SPD person in your life will be so much happier once you realize what kind of input is needed and you are able to provide it--I know we all are!

best book for no-nonsense approach to helping parents
I love this book! I read several before this one. The writers are kind enough to direct you where to go find something you need for a sensory smart child. This book discussed learning disabilities, different developmental delays and milestones. I talked about diiferent behaviors and what to expect and how to respond. This book is good from infancy to adulthood. It gave recomended reading lists and websites through out the book.As a parent,a childs new diagnosis for ASD or any developmental delay is tough and you start to seek sources for reference. This book eliminates the fillers/fluff in some books and tells good information about getting assistance, tools, toys, and things that parents need to become proactive. Arming yourself with knowledge helps you through the helplessness. This book gives you quality resources to immediately start helping your child. This book contained more than all the others together. It has helped me think more sensory smart and realize that I needed to reorganize our home and life to improve my son's life so that he could thrive. I have and will continue to use this book and refer to it as he grows. IT IS A GREAT TOOLBOX!

The best book to explain sensory difficulties
You will not be disappointed with this book. In fact, if you have a child with sensory processing difficulties, this is the book to get! I am a pediatric OT and always recommend parents order this book. The authors did such a fabulous job of taking long and complicated terms and explaining them so parents can understand what everyone on their child's team is saying and working on. It is so important for parents to know what is happening with their child and how to recognize new/different behavior so they can explain to their other family members as well. This book breaks everything down and I have spent 14 years reading and rereading parts of this book. I honestly think this book should be required reading for OT programs. This book is also fantastic for new OT grads or those breaking in to the pediatric OT world. The only thing I warn against is lending this book to a friend. This is such a fabulous book, you will never get it back!
