Very Realistic Ambulance That Opens
My 3-year-old son loves cars. Period. And I've been a fan of Tomica ever since I stumbled across them on Ebay months ago because they are durable diecast Matchbox sized cars, and most of them have an interactive feature of some kind. As with almost all of the Tomica vehicles sold on Amazon, this shipped from Japan, so it will take a while to arrive, but when it came, it was well packaged in a pouch envelope, wrapped in bubble wrap in its original box with no damage. This ambulance, like many of the Tomica line, has a working part--the rear door swings open to reveal a well- and accurately-appointed ambulance interior, complete with gurney. Of course, nothing inside moves, but it's nice to see the level of detail Tomica went to in order to create something truly realistic. The lights on top are a transparent red plastic to simulate lights, and you can see through all the windows inside. The whole ambulance is about the size of a Matchbox car and is also made almost entirely of diecast. Will definitely hold up to abusive toddler play.Overall, I will continue to buy from Tomica because even though it's a higher price and an import, their products a high quality, durable, and way more interactive that the popular US brands.

Everything one would want in a Matchbox-size ambulance
Mine is a little different than the Japanese issue, with a red cross and the words "Ambulance". Mine was sold as part of the Collect and Play lineup by Ertl. It's very heavy, and has an opening rear door. The rear door reveals a very detailed interior, complete with a stretcher (that is molded as part of the interior, so it can't be removed), sink, attendant's seat, cabinet, and squad bench. It also features a working suspension, that lowers the rear and the whole ambulance, making its crew's job a little easier. It's definitely one of the best toy ambulances available (other than Siku's 1/50 Sprinter), and for the $4 price tag, it's probably the best in its size and price bracket. It's been available in the Hypercity lineup for the US in playsets (the repair base) and a two pack (with a police car), plus the Collect and Play version found in some farm supply stores.
