2 Dogs and 2 cats, no problem!
We have two dogs and two cats so our carpets and rugs are always covered in hair! We've had this vacuum for a little over a month now and have absolutely no regrets. We vacuum every other day and it hasn't lost any suction from what we can tell at all. This might be because it doesn't have a normal fabric/paper filter as in normal vacuum. So this might not be throwing as clean air back into our rooms but it has been cleaning our carpets better than any comparably priced vacuums we have purchased in the past. The air quality isn't as important to us because we have the Bio-Shield UV-C Air Sanitizer System that I installed recently. We also haven't noticed a difference in the amount we've had to dust either. So far I would absolutely recommend this product to anyone that has pets. If I had to say one con it would be that I have to empty it so often, but we have a 2400sq ft house will carpet everywhere but the kitchen and bathrooms (at least twice in every room). I think thats because of the large amount of shedding that takes place! :) One last thing is that a lot of the negative reviews says that this is very loud and the the extendable hose is to short. This vacuum is by far the quietest I've ever owned. We can vacuum in the same room that our 6 week old daughter is sleeping in (maybe we got lucky and have a heavy sleeper?) As for the hose its not hard to use the attachment and just have your other hand holding the handle on the vacuum so it doesn't fall or hit you...... As for how long this vacuum last with the supposed belt issues in other reviews I do not know but for 80 bucks its working really good right now. Hope this helps anyone debating on buying this product, Go for it!Update 3/30/15This vacuum is still going strong! We've had zero issues with the belt as other people have reported. The handheld attachment is hit or miss cause with the amount of fur we get off of furniture it tends to cause it to jam cause it gets in around the moving parts (a quick one screw removal and clean around the little belt and fixed though) I've cleaned out the little sponge filter this machine has a couple times since we bought it and thats it. No loss of suction otherwise. We still have two cats and two dogs, so there's still plenty of fur that this machine gets everyday. We are actually purchasing a second one to keep in our basement instead of carrying the one between the floors.Update 9/7/15Still no real issues (other than having to empty it multiple times when cleaning!). I don't understand how any of my cats or dogs even have fur at this point with how much it picks up every day when we vacuum. Kinda gross lol but its doing a good job still. I mean for 80 bucks I cannot complain at all with how much fur has gone through this thing with no issues yet. As long as you maintain the machine.... which means clean out the housing. I.E take out the filter and the cyclone part of the canister and clean it outside every couple months the motor will not overheat. General cleaning maintenance, I believe, have made this last longer for me than all the other negative reviews about over heating. I mean have some common sense, maintain what you buy and it will last. I don't understand how people can expect something to be inexpensive and last forever without maintenance.

This sucks...in the best possible way!
I have 4 cats. 3 are long haired, so I brush them once a day and vacuum the whole house faithfully 3 times per week. I have laminate floors in my place and Persian and Chinese rugs in all the rooms-even the bathrooms. I vacuum the floors and once a week, I sweep them. I live alone and consider myself a clean, orderly person who likes the look and feel of a well maintained house. For years I eyed the Dyson, but could never convince myself to shell out the bucks. Cleaning as often and as much as I do, I figured my no name upright with a HEPA filter was doing a decent job. Last month, I got a generous and unexpected bonus at work and once again started looking at high end vacuums-when this one popped up. Hell, I thought, for $79, if it's a piece of junk, I'm not out that much money so I ordered it.I put it together this afternoon and took it for a spin in the living room. That's the room with the big, red Chinese rug and it's the place where LeeLee Da Chene, the champion shedder Flame Point/Turkish Angora female most likes to lounge and drop fur. I see traces of her there, on the carpet, every single day. I'd just vacuumed Wednesday night, so was not expecting much beyond getting a few tufts of long white hair up. I switched it on (noisy effer, this machine!) and went over the whole rug and the floor. Took a few minutes. The rug looked clean and the vacuuming was easy; no dragging or pulling. Feeling energetic, I decided to do the parlor (I rent the very large top floor of a Victorian triplex) next. I happened to glance at the see through cannister and my jaw dropped. It was FULL to the brim with cat hair and dust. Briefly I wondered if I had been vacuuming in an alternate universe. Surely all that hair had not just come off my carpet. No way.The cannister was easy to empty and I went on to the bedroom where I have a big wool rug and very little foot/cat traffic. Again-full cannister-dust, wool from the rug, grit and lots of cat hair. I had to empty the cannister each time before I could move on the the next room and was in a state of wonder mixed with horror at how filthy my "clean" rugs were. This machine is a bit heavier than my old upright, but I did not have to do multiple passes in any room and there are no stairs to deal with, so the extra weight did not merit taking a star off. I took the foam rubber filter out and washed it, and it is air drying as I type.Believe me when I say that this Bissell really sucks! :-DUpdate-October 3rd, 2014-My Bissell is still the love of my cleaning life. Since I've owned it, I have replaced the belt once and just as a precaution, replaced both the upper (washable) and lower (paper) filters. It cleans today as well as it did on the first day out of the box and I have been enjoying the small turbo brush for vacuuming cat hair from my chairs and sofa. Also found it's handy for vacuuming my mattress and box spring when I do the quarterly mattress turning. The cats hate the noise of the vacuum, but then cats hate anything that causes them to move from a sunny, warm spot. This cleaner still gets a Five Star rating from me.Update-December 22, 2015-Since purchasing in 2013, I have had zero issues with my Bissell. I had to replace the belt once, but that is standard for any vacuum. I remove and wash the sponge filter about once a month but that is it as far as maintenance goes and the performance is still as good as when I first purchased it. I have since moved to a house with 3 levels-basement-first floor (street level) and second floor and find this is easy to carry up and down the stairs. I love vacuuming!
