Maltodextrin is most often made using corn. Much of the corn grown in the United States is genetically modified to be more robust and pest resistant, making it ultimately cheaper to produce. There is no credible evidence that the resulting product has any different nutritional value nor that it has negative health effects or presents any sort of danger to the consumer. That said some feel that it is “unnatural” and choose not to consume it. Others don’t like to support the corporations involved in the GMO supply chain, as they often employ unethical business practices. Things to keep in mind: - “Natural” is a marketing term and does not describe anything about a product or how it is produced - Hormone additives and GMO are not related. Hormone additives in animal products (such as milk from cows treated with rBST) have been shown to make their way into your body. There is dispute about the exact effects of these.
