“COOL” TO THE RESCUE
FANTASTIC in more ways than one!! Our whole house A/C went out 2 full weeks ago. Temperature was 85-89 degrees thru out the whole house. Huge replacement costs. NO Way now. So we had portable a/c units but as good as they are, certainly not for long term use, while we decide just kind of new A/C system for our house. SO, we explored WINDOW units on Amazon & found a Whirlpool 15,000 BTU window unit needing only a regular voltage household outlet and to cover up to 750 sq feet. Ordered it for a Saturday delivery. Somehow the Amazon angels just knew we were in distress. The unit arrived 24 hours EARLY on Friday. Our son installed it in a living room window & within 2.5 hours and the cool began to circulate. AWESOME!! We still use the portable units in the bedrooms and box fans to circulate cool air thru out the rest of our 1200 sq ft 3 b/rm house. Settings on all units are set on “dry” to pull out the moisture from the air. This is the BEST solution to a temporary situation. We’ll be able to make the right kind of choice for a long term A/C replacement instead of making a very expensive panic decision. THANK YOU WHIRLPOOL, THANK YOU AMAZON. AND THANK YOU to the delivery team that rushed to get this to us so fast. Great reasonable price. Great quality product.. Energy efficient. ALL VERY COOOOOOOL …….AND SO ARE WE.

For those interested in the breakdown, I got and installed it in July ‘22. I was worried about having it shipped from Amazon after reading reviews saying it arrived damaged or dysfunctional, and also because I never tried one made by Whirlpool. I didn’t even know they made ACs. My old one was a Frigidaire 8k BTU model, which was soundly reliable for 7 years or so. Then, although still working, it started to lose its cooling power. Removing and fully cleaning and/or servicing it would have been an ordeal. I have a one bedroom apartment in NYC, with only the bedroom as a good place to install a window unit, so I went up to 10k BTUs for this one.The first thing to report after 2 roasting summers of use, I haven’t yet had any major issues with it. In fact the only complaint I have is with the remote. I have to be in front of the unit and fairly close for it to work. With my old remote, I could aim it at the ceiling from my bed if I didn’t want to get up in the middle of the night.Regarding the cooling power, this thing kicks! Even on 72 degrees it can feel TOO cold. I should probably keep it on a higher temp, but I prefer cold air. My old one had to be on 67 degrees–even when it was new—to get that cold, and you couldn’t feel the air move from a distance. With this one I can. The good thing is if you set it on eco mode it will regulate the temp nicely without constantly blowing. One aspect I stupidly didn’t expect was the increase in my electric bill. I thought the higher BTUs meant I didn’t have to keep it on for as long, or at such a low temp, and that would save me money. Evidently, what it actually means is that it costs more to run. I probably got too high a number for the size of my apartment, so I can’t really rate its energy efficiency. However, I’m totally okay with both right now because I hate being hot and sweaty. Plus, our summers are seasonal (for now), as compared to some other states, where it can be practically year round.I’m happy with this purchase. As I always do, I will update this if things change.

Incorrect measurements and description and in photos
The measurements shown in the photo of this unit are incorrect by about 4 inches horizontally and an inch vertically. I bought the unit to replace one that was identical in size and by the time I disassembled the old one and threw it away to put in this new one I was forced to create a mounting plate that held this one in place. It is not 24 inches wide it is 19 and three-quarter inches wide. Very disappointed by the time I had it unboxed and found out the size was different. I was not putting it back in the box to return it. For an expensive unit, I would think they would get the pictures and measurements correct. Disappointed.

So far so good. Slightly damaged when received.
Unit has been good so far but won’t know until the summer. It wasn’t in perfect shape when I got it. The fins were damaged. Packaging needs to be better to prevent this in the future.

Great unit. Uncomplicated install. Would buy again!
Originally, I ordered a LG window unit (12000 BTU). It was apparently a returned unit that was just reshipped to me. Shame on Amazon for not rechecking it thorughly before they sent it to me. It was DOA with a broken condensor fan blade that was laying in the bottom of the compressor deck.. This was easy to spot if somone had just looked. I really think that LG's complicated setup, in the inexperienced hands of their purchasers was responcible for this. The setup instructions required 4 screws to be removed and the compressor deck to be slid out of the case. I think someone tweaked the fan blade and broke it trying to make some kind of adjustment. The blade was made of a structural grade plastic and couldn't have broken on its own. There was no damage to the case. That being said, I'm a very active patron of Amazon. I've never had any problem returning an item back to Amazon within the return time limits. This was true of the dead LG unit. For me, the inconvenience to repackage the unit and the extra week wait to get a replacement just comes with the purchasing process. Since this seldom happens, I can roll with that. Now on the very positive side. I bought this 12000 BTU Whirlpool window unit. Wow, what a different experience! It came very well packaged and only required me to fit it to the window opening. Three screws secured it to the sash window frame. The accordion side pieces were easy to install and the adhesive foam core insulated panels were easy to cut and secure to where I wanted them. I plugged it in and entered the desired settings according to the easy to follow instructions. The unit is working just as I expected. I don't know what else this Whirlpool refrigerated window unit is supposed to do. I would highly recommend this product and would buy again!!
