Swap between laptops at your desk easily!
It does EXACTLY what it says it will and it does it great.I have two Thunderbolt supporting Macs, a work and a personal, at my desk. I want to use them both with my keyboard, mouse, and monitor. But I don’t want to have to unplug things from one computer and plug them into the other every time I want to switch.Enter this little box. Each laptop is connected via a thunderbolt cable to the two ports on the box, and the box is connected to my thunderbolt monitor. Everything else is connected to that.Whenever you press a button on the remote (or the single button on the box) it effectively unplugs my monitor from one computer and into the other. That computer suddenly sees the monitor and keyboard and everything else and in a couple of seconds I’m up and running. Press the other button on the remote and a few seconds later I’m back to the first computer. The one downside, which is not the fault of this product, is that whichever computer is not currently connected will not be charged. After all, it’s effectively not connected. So I have both computers plugged into power independently. That way I don’t have to worry that the battery will drain if I don’t use that computer frequently enough.I haven’t experienced a single problem from this product. For those complaining this act like your monitor is unplugged on the first computer when you switch to the second, that’s because it is. There is no way for it to do something like faking EDID the way an HDMI or display port switch might. Thunderbolt supports far too much for that to be practical, in my opinion. But as long as you understand this acts like it’s unplugging a device from one computer and into the other… It’s amazing. And relatively cheap too!

Perfect for swapping two macs on one Apple Studio Display
I’ve been using the Cable Matters 20Gbps USB4 USB-C Switch, and I couldn’t be happier with its performance. It has worked flawlessly, seamlessly switching between my devices without any lag or connectivity issues. For reference, I primarily use this to switch an Apple Studio Display between an M4 Mac Mini, M2 MacBook Pro, and M1 MacBook Air. Of course it only supports two devices so I have it connected permanently to the Mac Mini and swap out the laptop connected based on whether I'm doing something for work or personal. One of the standout features is the included remote, which makes it incredibly convenient. I was able to place the switch out of sight in my setup, and the remote lets me toggle between inputs effortlessly. While the build quality feels a bit lightweight and somewhat cheap, this is a non-issue for me since it stays tucked away. What really matters is how well it functions, and in that department, it exceeds expectations. No issues, no hiccups—just a reliable, easy-to-use switch that does exactly what it promises. Highly recommend!

Near perfect with two annoyances
I use two of these for my dual monitor setup as a makeshift KVM - they work great but taking a star off due to proprietary cable nonsense (it HAS to be used with their cables), and that the remotes can only work with one unit at a time. There’s no way to pair one remote to multiple which is a shame

Connections Matter. AHHH!
You may scream like I did. TL;DR - The hookup has to be exactly right to work. Besides the issue described below, it works very well. The cables are sturdy and it works perfect after the correct configuration is in place.Storytime:I have it switching between a work and personal computer. Both computers (1 Mac, 1 Windows) feed into a dock that handles all my peripherals. HDMIx2, keyboard, mouse, and USB headphones. In order to connect it to my dock, I needed to buy a female to female USB-C connector. This is where the issues began, but by the end you’ll see they are easy to fix.On initial hookup nothing worked. Only the lights on the device would switch. I trouble shot and got one computer connect through the dock. Tried to add a second, no bueno. Frustrated I looked through the reviews to find an answer. Nothing. I noticed the couplers I bought were not indicating power, they have small leds on them. Read the reviews there and for that product and found the issue. Both the switch, and the USB-C require very specific connection. This means that I had to rotate the USB-C connector and the cables coming from the computer to the dock. Not only were my couplers the issue, the cables had to be rotated in some instances. It took some trial and error but it finally worked. I marked all the connection with 1 dot to show which way was up and then 2 dots to indicate signal flow. The USB-C connectors are made by Poyiccot and are purple. They are available from Amazon.

Distorted audio and non-compatible cables
Why did you pick this product vs others?:I needed a way to move between my personal and work laptops without moving around cables, but I couldn’t get this to work. For one laptop I have an HP hub and a connected Dell speakerphone, which would distort audio when connected through this USB-C hub.For my other laptop it simply wouldn’t accept the cables provided. I tried using some others, but those won’t work with this hub. If you’re straight up connecting monitors, this should work great. But if you have a hub connecting mouse, keyboard, etc, and a laptop a few years old, pass for now.Cable Matters support was GREAT, but we just ran out of ideas.
