Granny squares?
This is a beautiful book. It is full of everything but granny squares! There are all sorts of motives. Round ones, triangle ones, hexagon ones and odd shaped ones. Yes are squares, lots of squares with not a granny in sight (well I lie there is one....but its round, oh wait theres one like a triangle) but not square! Each section is set out with a header page with all the motives photographed in a series of colours and the instructions are clear with both written and and in universal chart form. Circles are in greens and orange. Hexagons in pinks, Triangles in blues, squares in Oranges and pink and finally Unusual shapes in Yellow and blue. The book is by an American Author so the instructions are in American which are different from British but there is only a little difference but the charts are universal so if you can read charts there is no problem. For those unsureSlip stitch seems to be the sameSingle crochet is doubleDouble crochet is Treble crochetTreble crochet is Double crochet to quote just a few. There is plenty of information on the internet to help with understanding the differences with american and british Crochet stitches. This book has a beginning with useful information in understanding the book. How to start the motives, how to read patterns how to read the charts, Hook and Yarn sizing etc.At the back there are ideas how to join them together and some spare charts so you can make your own.And it is all in a hard spiral bound book so iy is easy to keep the book open while you work.

Brilliant book! Beautiful designs with very clear instructions.
I've not been crocheting very long, but I've picked up the basics. I wish I had bought this book sooner as the descriptions of how to work stitches (I think really intended as a reminder) are so clear that I think I could probably have learned from scratch with this book. Each design has a photograph of the finished piece, a set of written instructions and an instructional chart of symbols. I'm addition, there is a brief explanation of any slightly unusual stitch used. The instructions use the American terminology, but it's easy enough to mentally convert to UK, especially as charts use internationally recognised crochet symbols. The charts have even been printed in contrasting colours to make them as easy to read as possible. My fingers are itching to get my hooks and yarn out to get cracking on a new mofit. My only problem will be choosing where to start. . .Oh, WOW! I was excited enough by the lovely motif designs and the way the designs have been made so accessible to a fairly new crocheter, but then I found the appendix. Edie Eckman has included graphs to enable the reader to design their own mofits! Whilst this may not appeal to everyone, personally I know that those graphs are going to get a lot of use. I can't wait to get designing.

These have made my day a lot brighter.
Well I had been crocheting for many years, and I had tried every pattern there was as I thought, then I saw this after Amazon was advertising it online, so I bought it and I had no idea that there was so many squares and rounds to make I'm now hopefully up to scratch with everything you can make on your pins old as well as new my knitting skills have never been brilliant but I can follow a pattern if it's stocking stitch, as for chrocheting give me this any day with any pattern ihave been able to do has made my day a lot brighter.

Quite good
I really like this book. The fact that it is a hardback and spiral bound is very helpful for when you're using it while crocheting and you don't have to hold open the pages with weights. It has a lot of explanations and pictures to help you with your work. There are a lot of motifs in this book but I have to say they are mostly variations on a theme. I wouldn't buy it for the motifs, but it still is an excellent book.

I wish I had got it ages ago
I love this book. Ok so the terminology follows American crochet but, these are fully explained and it doesn't take too long to become comfortable and competent with the shift from UK to US stitch instructions. For me, as a competent crocheter, the terminology is no big deal, although it is important to recognize this is the case early on. The text does inform you but it's not made a big deal of - so, do be aware. The designs are great and are linked in sections by shape. This means there are multiple combinations and possibilities to work with. What I like is the clarity of instructions and the beautiful illustrations. The charts are useful as are tips for designing your own throws etc. I think this book is suitable for all abilities with designs that range form straightforward to more complex. The spiral style binding is a bonus and means the book will lay flat.I bought this along with the one on motifs and they were both well worth the money. If you like crocheting and have odd balls to use up this book is a gold mine of ideas. A truly useful addition and well worth buying.

Perfect motif book
The media could not be loaded. This book is one of the best books I have purchased for crochet. It teaches you how to crochet a range of different shapes as shown in the video. If there is a stitch you do not know the book has a detailed step by step guide how to learn the stitch. It is a hardback book with a spiral holding the pages in place. It is very colourful to give you inspiration for colour ideas. It also has a detailed step by step guide how to create the different patterns, which I was extremely happy about. What a marvellous book to learn different motifs.

A wonderful little book of Motifs
I prefer squares and they are only a fraction of the motifs but I am not displeased as I wish to branch out into other motif shapes and there are circles, hexagons, triangles and even a section on unusual (?) shapes. Instructions are easy to follow and the spiral bound option is wonderful for using on the go. Highly recommend.
