Treat Your Own Neck

Sort yourself out
I've had terrible posture for a number of years now, brought on by a sporting injury and compounded by 7-8 hours a day sat behind a monitor, the rest slouching on a sofa.To some degree this book told me things I already knew, about how bad posture can affect bad health and why. What it did tell me is that while Osteopathy and Physiotherapy is good, it's treating the symptom, not the cause of pain. The cause of pain is generally laziness, because sitting with poor posture is comfortable! The exercises are very easy, and provide great relief. I'm only on week two, but I feel a slight improvement, I've also invested in the posture aids suggested in the book, a must if you're going to improve your posture. For the price it's worth it, but this book alone wont fix you. Dedication, exercise and remembering to hold the correct posture (which this book shows you) will do that!

From the start of Chapter One in the book there are 68 pages. It's worth reading it right through before starting treatment.
This is a remarkable book which tells you just about everything that you need for straightforward 'do it yourself' treatments for neck-ache. I bought the book on 1st March 2016 and have performed the treatments described almost every day since then. (As I write this review on 2nd April, I am continuing with the exercises.) Before I started, my neck was extremely painful and made some awful crunching sounds. Since then, the crunching has steadily reduced and now I can only slightly hear it. And the pain has reduced considerably. I shall certainly continue with daily treatments as time permits in the hope that soon the remaining pain and crunching both go away. I shall keep hold of the book in case I need it again to help me deal with any repeats of the neck-pain.

Neck ache review
My doctor recommended I try this book. It explains well the likely causes of neck pain - with heavy emphasis on need to ensure correct posture. This encouraged me to improve mine which has helped reduce pain but not remove it. The exercises are simple, reasonably well explained* and do not take a long time to do - just a few minutes. However not a cure for me (yet) so need to go back to the medics*doesn't actually explain the difference between 'neck pain' and 'stiff neck' and a stiff neck does give pain. I took 'stiff neck' to mean only having pain when trying to turn my head

A truly excellent book!
Do exactly what he says - and your neck/cervical vertebrae WILL eventually get better. This book is a life saver for sufferers. There's one for bad backs, too, which is equally good.

Cured my worst pain and gave me confidence to look forward to normal activities
I had the intense pain of a broken arm just behind where a watch would be every day as a result of referred pain from my neck. It did this in the early hours so my sleep was badly affected. This pain eased with movement but it and other pains occurred through the day.Four weeks of physio didn't help.Three weeks of Mckensie exercises has solved this pain problem.I found I went back to the book every week to take stock as there is a lot of very specific detail which I didn't absorb fully until underway. This is partly because, done properly the exercises require an unusual muscular action you develop over time.In effect he advises that the exercises are done hourly (while awake). This book enabled me to substantially cure my neck and gives me the confidence to resume my nornal activities. I assume these exercises will always be necessary for me, regularly and after activities which challenge my neck.

Empower yourself- use this book to treat your own neck pain
Years ago, after back surgery, I had a lot of pain and my physical therapist told me to get McKenzie's book on treating my own back pain. I did it and the exercises in the book were great. Most of the exercises were the same the PT gave me, but I was able to follow the directions and directions in the book without any more need for the therapist.Fast forward to recently when I hurt my neck. When it didn't clear with ice/heat in a few days, I went in search of a McKenzie book to help my neck.... and lucky for me it exists. Follow it religiously,my neck pain was gone within just a few days.If the book tells you to see a doctor, do it, but if you are like me and it is just a muscle problem, the neck exercises in the book should do the trick.Thank you Robin McKenzie!!!!

For neck pain - really useful!
I was recommended to buy this book by my GP and it was good advice. For anyone who wants to know how to ease chronic or acute neck pain and prevent further problems, this is a very practical and useful book. It reduces the need for pain-killers, saves money and also reduces the possibility of unwanted side-effects.The book contains useful anatomical background information as well as exercises which can be used daily to prevent problems from occurring or recurring. Standing, sitting and sleep positions are covered and all the exercises are straightforward and realtively safe.

Extremely well written and clear, with colour photos of exercises
I am hoping to decrease my dependence on chiropractor visits. The book is a quick and easy read, but then can easily be referred to, in order to correctly do the prescribed exercises. Worth every dollar I paid (not many!) , and highly recommended. I bought ‘Treat your own back’ year’s ago and have referred to it many many times and bought it for friends and family!
