Q: Will water bottles fit in the 6 exterior pleated pockets? (Also, I would suggest that pictures of the bags loaded with different items would be much more useful than models striking poses with the bags)

I just tried with a Poland Spring 16 oz. bottle and it fits with the bottle half contained in the pocket. Larger bottles would have to go in the two mesh end pouches. I have no trouble fitting everything I need in the bag, and then some. There are also five more mesh pockets inside, two larger and three smaller. Plenty of storage. Still love it and use it everyday. Hope that helps.

Q: Is the medium bag large enough to hold a laptop?

Great question. The answer is it depends on the size of your laptop. The medium sized bag will hold a laptop within the dimensions 14.5" L x 6.5" W x 10.75" H while the large bag's dimensions: 17" L x 7" W x 13.5" H. I'd measure your laptop dimensions first and see if it will fit into the bag. The bag does have a bit of extra room as it's not rigid and, plus the width or depth is 6.5" for the Medium and 7" for the Large. Hope this helps.

Q: Is there a laptop compartment?

No, It’s one big compartment but inside there are medium sized mesh pockets (6 of them) attaches to the side as well as the pockets you see on the outside. It’s very good sized! I use mine for school and I can fit books, binders, and my laptop inside with plenty of room

Q: What material is inside the bag, it it machine washable?

It is not machine-washable, but you could clean it with a damp cloth or baby wipe.
