Perfect for storing guacamole--but don't lose the valves
I use this for one thing: storing guacamole. I put the leftover guac in this, push the lid down, which seals the guac off from air. The next day, the guac is still great. No brown at all. Use some, put the lid back down, the guac stays perfect. I keep guac in it for several days, with no browning.UPDATE: I just learned how to clean out the top. I thought the little arrows on it were telling you to rotate it while pressing down on the food, but they were to show you how to take the top apart for cleaning. Duh! After using, you take apart the top and clean it by hand. If you don't, old food gunk stays in there.LATER UPDATE: I'm on my third one of these. I dropped and broke one of them. What happened to the other one was that at some point I lost one of the two small blue valves inside the top. Apparently, they can come off and disappear during washing if you are not careful. When I lost the first one, I just covered the hole with a little piece of duct tape and that actually worked fine. But then I lost the second valve and the container stopped blocking air very well. So, I suggest keeping an eye on those two little valves--as well as the loose round rubber seal which is also in there--when you are washing out the top.

Surprisingly effective
This thing is surprisingly effective at keeping our crackers fresh for weeks. I was intrigued by the design - it has valves so that as you close it or open it, a little rubber valve allows the air through, so you can open or close it. But, when it's at rest, those valves are closed, so the moisture doesn't flow through, and the crackers stay crisp. Quite ingenious.

They work!!!!
These are excellent containers. I use them for my coffee beans, ground coffee, rice, flour and a host of other items. Getting the air out is imperative to keeping things fresh. I think they are way over priced but they do the job. I'm hoping that there will be some competition coming. FYI- HSN has the plastic version of these at a much lower price.

Great for guacamole
I bought this specifically for guac. It works great. Be careful and gently ease the lid down until it fully displaces all the air; stop as soon as you see the tiniest bit of guac squish past the gasket and go up the sides (that tiny bit will get brown but so what, it's an extremely small amount). The gasket is very soft, so if you press too hard you will get an explosion of guac up the sides and maybe even out of the container. So don't do that. You'll need to take the lid apart for cleaning: all the separate pieces, including the gasket and valve covers (little blue disks). It's much easier to clean with a brush than a sponge, so at first I thought it was a pain but now it's a snap. The lid is not dishwasher safe (plus you're gonna lose those valve covers) so take the 60 seconds to wash by hand.I don't know how durable this will be; I don't expect the gasket to last very long given how soft it is, but at this price it's worth it. I also bought a larger size for coffee. Since it's clear, for coffee you need to store it away from light (so not on the counter) but no big deal.

Over Complicated Single use item
I can't believe some people are using this for guacamole and other wet items. (However, I must add that the photos of the food in the container only show dry food.)The bottom of the plunger is perforated so any gunk that touches the lid will get into the inner workings of the plunger! And there are a lot of inner workings on this plunger. There is the bottom plastic shell, an inner o-ring that is very hard to remove, the outer sealing flange, the top cap/handle and two umbrella valves. Because this product is so complicated, cleaning would take at least 15 minutes and half of my drying rack. Because of that I would only use this for something that is dry and non powdery. Maybe it would would be good for whole coffee beans, rice, and chips. Not flour, leftovers, or the such. Also beware when reassembling the cap (after cleaning the insides for instance) make sure to completely rotate the two halfs together. If they are not completely closed the air will easily bypass the two umbrella valves and you will not get any sealing at all.Lastly, I asked previous customers how hard it was to lift the plunger. People were quick to tell me that anyone could easily do it. I found the initial lifting hard and unsatisfying. It took about 4x force to initially move the plunger because the cup seal has to invert before the plunger can move. Furthermore, the whole plunger is able to wobble enough that the seal can be completely lost and the cup seal can be completely mashed!I think this is an innovative product, and you are certainly getting a lot of technology for your money, but I find this to be a gimmick at best

DON'T LOSE THE SMALL SILICONE BUTTON!!!!!
This was actually a good product, as are the others in this same style, until I lost down the drain, the ESSENTIAL PART that makes it air-tight....one of the two little silicone buttons in the lid. Beware losing the little silicone buttons in then cap!!!! If one, or both, is lost, the canister will no longer be able to be sealed. The canister doesn't come with any instructions at all, and you must figure out for yourself how to remove the various parts of the top in order to clean it/them. When twisting the top segments to open them, it is incredibly easy to dislodge one or both of the silicone buttons, and if they fall down the drain, the canister is no longer air-tight and guacamole, for instance, will be exposed to the air and will discolor and spoil.I contacted Prepara, the manufacturer, and their customer service said they do not have any 'spare parts' for the canisters-- I offered to buy a replacement button, but they were not helpful.......they were just sorry for any "inconvenience".....Sorry, Prepara, this was no mere "inconvenience"!!! The canister is no longer 'fit for purpose' because it is no longer air-tight. I wasn't asking for any 'freebie parts' ....... I offered to pay. It is a mighty expensive canister without the buttons!I will not buy anything else, ever, from Prepara.
