WWII Combat Fun
How's that for an oxymoron? I haven't played video games for quite awhile and on a whim bought this one. I am now once again addicted. Set it for pilot can't die and just have fun shooting and blowing up stuff. It has several modes but the Campaign mode is what made it exciting and addicting for me.

Very Disappointing
I have an older copy of this from several years ago that matches the picture given that works great. This one, however, does not match the picture, is one disk (as apposed to two) and is an "Ubisoft eXclusive". Every time I try it I get a window asking for my language choice, I click English (but I have tried every one of them) and click ok. It then sends me to a menu that has two options (game or manuals). I click game and then it goes to my desktop and then tells me to insert dvd into disk drive. Granted this computer is windows vista and it says it is compatible up to windows xp, but the old copy worked fine and this wouldn't even register on my old xp in my room. This computer also acted really slowly and somewhat erratically when the disk was put in and as soon as I pushed the button to eject it, it worked fine. This game is garbage. Get the real one.

Microsoft Combat Flight Simulator 3: Battle for Europe
I expected much more from Microsoft on this flight Sim and they let me down. Oh well. I got started years ago with the Red Baron and really enjoyed it. I even bought the "New" Red Baron II later, but it was far too "buggy" and so I quite playing it.This effort at a flight Sim is a failed effort by the Microsoft programmers. BTW, I've had a private pilot's licence since 1971 and have flown tail draggers and am presently rated up to a dual engine 310. Still, I'd like to find a realistic WWII flight Sim that works. The FAA doesn't allow you to really blow people out of the sky.

Unrealized Potential
This sim requires PC capabilities well beyond those advertised by MS.It has potential if 3rd parties develop proper aircraft performance and gun ballistics. My system is AMD 2G/512 DDR/GEForce3 Ti200 64. The graphics card is just satisfactory after upgrading NVIDA current drivers. Prior to that stutter and not much more. Not enough system performance results in degradation of aircraft handling. It is clear that a new video card of GEForce 4 or ATI 9700 PRO is required for designed sim performance.Missions were designed by persons without a clue as to reality. Repeated attacks on a well defended target is suicide. A P-47 for a truck or tank?Low angle gun attacks into a heavy AAA area. MS needs help.MS went away from a very good CFS2 target and indicator system wihin the cockpit. Because it was necessary to get frame rates.Another major problem is that G can only be seen with lots of other data not required in a dogfight. The CFS2 frame rate and G were much better. Unless simers are actually experiencing G sitting in front of their screen. Never can tell.3rd party programmers can fix to a sim better than CFS2 plus a robust computer and graphics card.Recommended: Yes with qualifications

Great depiction of WWII era
I have played a few combat sims of different eras and this one is a great addition to my collection. It has all of the aircraft for that era for that location (europe) and it portrays the aircraft correctly. It has multiple camera views and if you vehicle has gun pods, you can also switch between them. The graphics are decent for when it was made as the animation is smooth and, at the right resolution, the image is sharp. However, this game does have a couple bugs: when you dive with the airbrakes deployed in a German stuka ("Ju" designation) there is no siren as there was in the real stukas of WWII; when you select "invincible", if you hit the ground you die (in Jane's Fighters Anthology you just bounced off the ground); and after selecting "unlimited weapons", once you fire all rockets from a fighter or drop a full payload from a bomber, it tells you that you have no rockets or bombs left, respectively. Otherwise, this is a wonderful game that is realistic (you can vary the amount of realism in game) and it reminds me of a WWII version of Jane's Fighters Anthology. If you want an arcade of a game with just a couple basic controls for steering and shooting/dropping bombs, this is not the game for you. It is an involved game that has controls for every function you would find in a real aircraft, that I know of.

DUD. ANOTHER MICROSOFT FAIL
I have a Dell Inspiron with a Win 10 OS and while the game loaded onto the HDD, it refuses to play, no matter which steps I take. You'd think that since it was a Microsoft game, that it would be reverse compatible, but such isn't the case. It ironic that another flight sim, Jane's 'WW II Fighters" installed in 5 minutes and plays with nary a hitch. Yet another reason to hate Microsoft, the 'Evil Empire'.....

Worth the money
I bought this as a replacement for an older version and this one has very good realism. I'm still in training, but looking forward to some great missions.
