The Denali chapter ... Ride on...
This book takes you down every Great road, tells you where to get gas, where to eat, what to see, what the locals suggest, and where the hot springs are for some R&R. It even has the 4x4 trails and offshoots.I always do my homework before I go so I know what to see and do, and more importantly, what I NEED to KNOW. This book covers it all for any first timer to Alaska on a bike. This book is very well written, entertaining to read, and a refreshing take on why we ride ADVENTURE Bikes. I now know that going above the Artic Circle has some challenges, and the Denali Highway and the Kenai Peninsula is a must see on two wheels. I cannot imagine planning a trip to Alaska without this book!

well well well well well
Very seldom do i have to do this but a one star is in order ...The Reason you ask????You see i have been riding since age 9 off road which is now 46 years and do extreme off roading and map out the entire wilds of PA (wilder than you might think) and use a totally off road setup street legal Honda XR650L, and anyone with any experience at all knows that this is the only real enduro that is off road capable for more reasons then i can list in this review...All Lee seems to be familiar with is the KLR which is a joke off road bike but his constant reference to this bike on the nasty stuff makes me want to laugh because this is hardly the bike I would take off road anywhere...even in PA (which does not boast the terrific water crossings and conditions of the outback of Alaska) I would never ever consider a KLR. Now it is true that i have a serious bit of Trials experience and anyone that knows anything about riding knows that the god almighty of motorcycling is a trials rider and believe me i do get my XR into some serious trials riding conditions in the northern tier of PA.That said the OTHER THING THAT IRRITATES ME IN A BIG WAY IS HIS CONSTANT REFERENCE TO INGESTING BOOZE...ANYONE WITH ANY EXPERIENCE AT ALL KNOWS ANYTHING WITH A MOTOR AND BOOZE DO NOT MIX ....AND THAT INCLUDING PUSH MOWERS ..........RIDING LAWN MOWERS......... CARS............ AND ESPECIALLY THE SHARPNESS OF SKILLS NECESSARY TO RIDE A MOTORCYCLE PROPERLY AND SAFELY...SO FOR THESE 2 REASONS I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THIS BOOK..........PICS ARE GOOD HOWEVER!!!!!!!!!!!

Fantastic Book for Motorcyclists!
I bought this to use as a resource for my upcoming motorcycle trip to Alaska. It is a fun book and well written. I highly recommend it to anyone planning to ride there. It includes good info about all the highways in Alaska as well as places to stay and eat along the way written from a motorcyclists point of view. The author also runs a great motorcycle rental and tour company out of Anchorage for those who wish to fly there and rent a bike. This book, along with the Milepost, was one of my most used references in my trip planning.

think you want to ride in alaskia this book great start
Good book great overview of riding possibilities in state of Alaska not just head up to dead horse turn around go home Alaska is like any state in the union if you cover the whole state you will find lots of great roads, people and places. Well in Alaska you don't have to go everywhere they already have so read the book cherry pick what looks go to you and have at it. If you do go buy the book the Kindle format kind of sucks

Very useful book for overview planning
Couple this book with Milepost Alaska and you should be good to go for that "bucket list" trip. I have to make a speed run to meet up with spouse in Anchorage for 10 days for exploring my old stomping grounds during the summer. Will use book extensively for ride back home without time constraints. Clear writing, easy to follow recommendations and even has suggested itineraries.

Scores of potential trips are at your finger tips
I will have this book with me, on Kindle, for any dual purpose trip I take to Alaska. As I plan, I have it "open" to plan side trips, loops and book accomodations. Most of what you need to know is here. I didn't give it five stars because the indexing is clunky and the maps are pretty low resolution when you need it.

Great advice for motorcycling in our largest state!
This book is great for planning a motorcycle trip to Alaska! Particularly good for people who have never ridden in our 49th state. Covers the many aspects of riding in the "Last Frontier." Has suggested itineraries for varying numbers of days while riding in Alaska, which really help to plan your trip.

All you need!
Contains almost all you need to know to be able to tour in Alaska by motorbike, couldn't find a section on when to come/ weather conditions. Nevertheless it is an excellent guide book, well focused, with good information. It certainly motivates me to plan a long-ish trip to Alaska and try out the wonderful roads and trails.

Solid resource material, quality photography, suggested links and other reading materials, very helpful.
I ordered several resource materials at the same time, all in preparation of a 2014 cross continent trip to Alaska and back. After quickly scanning each of the several guide books I received, this is the volume I chose first to read. I read through it once cover to cover and continue to flip through it over and over again. Full of well written destination and travel advice, this book has become the carry everywhere reference tool for the trip. Several other helpful resources are also recommended from within it's pages and they have all turned out to be very helpful. An excellent launching pad of a book. Only wish it was spiral bound.

Very Nice Book With Useful Info. Travel Sized Too!
Very nicely written and illustrated book. Reasonably up to date. Every page looks nice. Size of book is excellent - packs nicely into a small tank bag or even into a large bike jacket/pants pocket.

Interesting book to help plan our adventure
Knowing absolutely nothing about Alaska other than it's northwest of us and I'm going to be riding a motorcycle there next year, I have been finding this book interesting to read and also very informative to help us plan where we want to go on our trip. I definitely wouldn't use it exclusively to plan a trip, but for learning about the different areas and what each has to offer it has been great. For anyone looking to take advantage of the off-road opportunities pointed out in this book but without much experience with dual sport riding, I would also recommend "The Essential Guide to Dual Sport Motorcycling" as a great accompaniment to this book.
