Great toy but read this first!
My cat LOVES this toy! He will stare at the top of the refrigerator and meow and look back and forth between me and the top of the fridge until I bring it down. The only thing to point out is that the wooden wand comes apart at the middle so it can be stored easier - but with my cat often pulling hard on the elastic string - the front half of the wand can be pulled out of the back half - sending the front half of the wand flying forward! I solved this by putting some white Elmer’s glue down in the hole and it seems fine now - but I don’t take it apart I just keep it all together. This is a great toy and Bowie has two now - one for upstairs and one for downstairs - so I can surprise him suddenly when the moment is right and he loves this thing. He pulls pretty hard on the elastic string but it hasn’t broken - so that’s a sign of quality also. Pulling too hard on the string though is what makes it come apart in the middle sometimes. He bites and claws at the rubber squid thing at the end but none of the little squid legs has come off and that’s obviously very important too. (This is a genuine review. I have nothing to do with this company and this is the first thing I’ve ever bought from them.) I hope your cat gets as much fun out of this as mine!!

Have never heard him whine for something that wasn't food...
...but my kitty was sitting in front of the drawer where I keep this meowing for me to open it! A BIG hit needless to say. I love the squid--my cat looks so ridiculous with it hanging out of his mouth like a beard.Deducting only one star, because the stretchy string makes it hard to tug it out of his mouth. I essentially have to pry it out of his mouth every time he catches it. But I guess that's okay, because it makes me genuinely have a stake in the game.Edit: Welp, that was a fun three days. He shredded it. They say Maine Coons are "dog cats" so maybe other types of cats won't do this, but his main objective after catching it was destroying it, and he has succeeded. Keeping the 4 stars because he had so much fun and it made me laugh, so, eh, I've spent $10 for worse.

Surprisingly durable, and got my old cat to play again
A bit of background: I have an old man cat. He's fat and lazy. He's basically Garfield. He even steals food. He doesn't really like to play much at his age.I figured getting another toy to try to get his interest in something that isn't loading or eating was worth a try. If he didn't like it, the other two cats probably would.Holy moly does he like it. He hasn't run so quickly for something that wasn't food in ages! It looks like a squid on a string, but he loves it. The ONLY downside (I think) is the string being elastic - he holds onto it and won't let go, and I can't get it away because the string is elastic. But hey, it's a good toy. I'm not complaining because Fatty is actually playing with it.

Best "Toy on a string" for cats that I've found.
The vast majority of these types of "toy on a string" have a piece of metal or heavy hard plastic end on them where the feathers or tail attaches to the string. One errant nibble at the metal, or getting hit with the toy mid-air while they were jumping at it would usually cause my cats to give up on them for good. But the Kitty Kraken is light weight and surrounds the connection point with a rubberized lure. The lure material is really great because their claws don't get stuck in it. They can also bite on it when they catch it without fear of chomping a piece of metal. In my opinion, an elastic string and a rigid wand is also much better than many that use an inflexible string and a wand that bends. It gives more control. If I would change anything, I would probably make both the wand and the string a couple inches longer, but it works fine the way it is. Even our notoriously skittish cat likes to give chasing this a go on occasion. I'll definitely be buying more of these in the future.

My cats adore these....to death
OK, so my cats...one of whom is terminally lazy...respond to these toys with a delight that surprised me. They leap, pounce, wrestle with it to the point of exhaustion (theirs and mine). That's the good news. The bad news is that our cats have an incredible ability to gnaw out the "feathers"---little plastic strings at the end--one by one. Within a week the "bird" is missing all of its "feathers". Now they don't seem to be interested in eating the plastic, only in destroying the "bird", so it isn't a safety concern. But buying a new one of these every week would get prohibitive. If the manufacturer could reinforce the attachment holding the "feathers" to the plastic "bird" so that cats could not yank them out, this would be a must-buy item. As it is, you have to weigh cat fun against cost.

Best cat toy for lots of fun and exercise!
I just bought this cat toy and my cat loves it! Our cat has about 10 toys and this is her favorite. It is very versatile as I can play with her up high, down low, or by dragging it around on the ground. I can cast it like a fishing rod (which it looks like), then drag it around on the ground or swing it like a pendulum or merry-go round above her. She sometimes catches the “fishing lure” (without a hook of course) and will chew on it then try to run away with it. Before she gets too far, the elastic makes it snap back where she will chase it again. The area of ground it covers for playing is about 6 feet which provides a lot of room for exercise for the cat without me having to move around too much. This is great for me since I have arthritis and mobility issues. It is lightweight, yet sturdy and durable. It is also very cute. She tries to steal it out of her cat toy storage pot when I am not looking.

If the stick hadn't broke this would get five stars
My cat loves the toy at the end of the stick. Seriously, if the stick hadn't busted this toy would've gotten all five stars and I would've bought another.

Playtime's biggest stars!
We have 3 kitties and now, 3 Kraken's. Each has a name and they love the variety. Have had the first 2 for some time and they are just as good as new. Great stretch, the toy's rubber is pretty strong and doesn't break. We only bring these out at playtime. Otherwise, they're at the top of the closet where they are safely out of the reach of kitty paws.
