Q: What is the purpose of the RO Membrane? It's sold separately from the filters. Does this need to be replaced every time the filters are replaced?

Lots of wrong answers here. On average you should replace carbon (pre and pst) every six months and R/O every 12 to 18 months. But it is VERY important to have your entry water (from a bathroom sink) TESTED at least once as this will affect how often you should change filters and which filters. If you buy the unit for 200 and then spend 100 a year on carbon filters and 50 every 18 months on R/) that is 700 to 800 bucks on the filter and maintaining it. 25 bucks on a test is nothing. That will help guide you on how often which filters need to be changed more than any static timetable. Also a family of four will literally have 1/4 the filter life interval of a single person

I am not sure if it works "fine". I bought this part too. Yes-it is fix the connection! Yes - water is moving though all tubes(drain, IN tube, OUT tube, Tank tube)! But it does NOT lower of Total Dissolved Solids (TDS) which is THE MAIN AND ONLY reason of having Osmosis Reverse System. Is it fine? When I look at at price of the 3857705 which is $125 - Wow! May be this is the reason that WhirlPool cost $49?

Yes next time please review my review it stats that I have the same system as you. I have been using it for over 4 yrs. Whirl pool makes the system for Kenmore 650 so yes they are. So you know The membrane filters does not have to be changed as often as pre and post filters! membrane you change every2-3 yrs and pre and post filters 6months to1 yr!

No. This filter is not for a refrigerator. It fits a Reverse Osmosis water filtration system. It's used primarily as an extra filter for well water.
