Plug n Play
Solid. Runs out of the box. No need to format, just plug in and instantly functions. Needed an external SSD for single player games. Runs smooth and read/write speeds are blazing fast. Highly recommend this one!

Almost as good as I thought it would be.
I have mixed feelings. First, this thing is absolutely tiny, although it has some heft and there is a lot of electronics stuffed in there. Seems to be built strong, but it's mostly metal and very hard. Maybe should have a shock resistant coating or cover. It does work but I don't quite know what to say about performance. I have a 2022 MacBook Pro with the M2-Pro processor. My computer has 3 USB-C ports, all of which are also Firewire 4.0 enabled. Using the short USB-C cable that came with the device and using the Black Magic disk throughput program, I get a maximum write speed of 925 mbps (advertised on Amazon to get up to 2000 mbps). I have an older SanDisk 2TB SSD that under the same setup gets about 640 mbps (rated at 1000 mbps). I bought an expensive specific Firwire cable, although it is 18 in long, and the throughput for the SSK was the same at 925 mbps, while the San Disk dropped slightly to 525 mbps. I'm probably OK with the discrepancy, because even at slightly short of 1000 mbps, the SSK drive was still cheaper than anything else in that size factor at the 1000 mbps level, and it's still about 35-40% faster than the San Disk. I just wish I knew why neither of them perform up to their stated specs. Maybe I'm doing something wrong.
