These shorts will definitely go in the playtime category for my son. He has long legs and these shorts are too short for him. I wouldnt say they run small because they fit his waist fine. They are just too short. I don't know if sizes up will help him because then the waist might be too loose even with the drawstring. He is a little, skinny guy who is on the taller side for his age. But the colors are great and he seems to find them comfortable which makes them perfect for around the house, pool or playtime.

If you have a boy who abuses his clothes, get these shorts. My 4 year old son plays outside all the time, much of it digging in dirt, so I need durable clothes in dark colors. Bonus if they don't break the bank. These fit the bill. They are soft and comfortable, fit him well, disguise his dirt stains, and so far the bottom has held up well to him scooting around on the ground while he plays. I will probably buy more of these shorts since he likes them and they are affordable.

I got these shorts for my son, and they have been his go-to shorts this summer. They wash well and the fabric does not wrinkle or shrink, they are comfortable for lounging, sleeping or playing. He pretty much lives in them so they are kid approved.
