Hooray! Bread is back in my life!
I didn't expect miracles. I justed wanted bread back into my life so that every now and then I could have a small piece with butter and jam for breakfast or two slices for a PB & J sandwich. Yep, it's the simple things that I've missed. It was so frustrating watching people dive into bread baskets at the restaurants when I had to wait patiently for the salads and soups to arrive. But now I know that I can go home and have a piece of Ener-G Foods Light Brown Rice Loaf. And hey, it's almost as good as the real thing. "Almost" meaning I went from a 0% bread lifestyle to 100%. That's a big increase!!!So, what's it like? Well, it's not yeasty... or wheaty... or bready. It doesn't have that rich grainy and buttery flavor like real bread. And when you toast it, it's not going to make your kitchen smell like a bakery. But it's pretty darn good especially when you haven't had bread in a long time. I had a breakfast sandwich this morning! What about you?To reiterate what other reviewers have already pointed out... You need toast it. Even just slightly to heat it up. Then it will feel and taste like bread. Otherwise, it's more like cardboard. Don't blame the bread though. That is how rice starches work. Ever put left over rice in the refrigerator and then try to eat it the next day? Have you noticed that if you under-microwave the cold rice, it's hard and powdery? BINGO! It's the rice starches. They're cold. So just remember to toast the bread. A little for sandwiches or a lot to get it dark for butter and jam. This weekend, I'm going to try grilled cheese and heck... maybe even FRENCH TOAST!!!

Mold
I was very excited for this bread. I use it every year for stuffing for Thanksgiving. It was no longer offered at our grocery store, so I bought online. The first loaf I opened had mold. Due date on whole case was not passed due date. I had no choice but to go to the grocery store the day before Thanksgiving and buy GF bread I didn’t want to use for stuffing. Thankfully I saw the mold. I would’ve felt bad to make people sick from serving them this bread. Could’ve been storing condition issues?

Definately best when lightly toasted
I have also tried the seattle burger bread, which I think taste brilliant and again, when lightly toasted.I agree with other reviewers that this bread actually feels and tastes dry; but then very few people actually eat their bread without some condiments!Once toasted and a little spread, this is such a great gluten free alternative. it is as close to 'bread texture' as you are going to get from the current market selection. And boy have I had to try some very dense gluten-free alternative. The size of the loaf is smaller than the tradtional wheat loaf, measuring roughly 3.5 by 3.5 inches.I am just happy to have toast and marmite again!

Delicious bread for celiac girls
My granddaughters and daughter, who are gluten intolerant, say this is the best bread ever. They love it toasted and for grilled sandwiches -- their strong preference is to toast the bread, but when the package is first opened, they do love to spread it with butter and eat it plain. The shelf-stability of the bread is a huge plus -- no need to freeze it to keep it fresh. Though I don't have celiac disease, I've tasted this bread toasted and it comes the closest of any gluten-free bread I've had to the texture and flavor of wheat bread.

Different product
This is the wrong bread! Instead if the original ener-g bread shown in the picture, I received multi-grain with brown rice!I believe this is the company's new product, with totally different ingredients. This contains several corn products, which I'm allergic to and so are my childrenThis was the only bread we could use, and Amazon was the only place we could find the original product. Very disappointed that they changed the product without changing the product description/information.

a good little bread with it's quirks
when i recieved my bread i didn't realize how small the slices would be, but the size lends to appetizers or small sandwiches for kids. the bread itself has a sourdough taste to it which is cool, but it's really dry. it made me nervous about the bread that it had a long shelf life in a vacuum seal. i'm not used to that. i found myself eating less and less bread which is a good thing overall. i will keep the loaves to make breadcrumbs, veggie burgers and maybe a bread pudding. if you have to get a readymade bread, go for it. it's not terrible, but it's really different from the usual wheat bread that i now have to avoid. i think i will try my hand at making gluten free bread at home instead of relying on outside sources. i gave it 3 stars because though there were some things i didn't care for i still can see it used in other ways in the kitchen.

Edible, but just barely
I tried this product when I was first diagnosed. It is palatable & has a nice storage life outside of a freezer. I much prefer Udi's or Joan's Great Bakes for bread. They really taste like bread. This is just barely edible.

Amazing bread
This bread is amazing! I have been buying Ener-G brand products since 2002 and have been getting the light brown rice bread for as long as I can remember. More recently they made some changes in packaging and I assume changes in their recipe. The bread is bigger, softer, and much more tasty! Gluten free is not always easy to master, especially when trying to be healthier or available in a light version. I am so happy at the changes that were made! I always buy in cases since the packaging is air tight and lasts a very long time.
