The story is set in 1954 and tells us how Teddy Daniels, a US Marshal, goes in search of a murderess who escaped from an institution for the criminally insane. The institution, Ashecliffe Hospital, located on the remote Shutter Island. On the island he discovers some individuals, such as doctors who have their own way of working. Teddy knows that something is not right on the island, but he can not properly complete its investigation because the doctors refuse to cooperate. The closer Teddy comes to the truth, the more he begins to doubt everything. Meanwhile, there are more criminals escape from the body and reaches the chaos on the island a highlight. Teddy is nowhere to go and always question his partner Chuck Aule, his memory, and even his own sanity.
