Surprisingly Simple and Reliable: A Great Pool Thermometer That Just Works
After some recent frustration with Amazon tech products, I was pleasantly surprised by how easy it was to set up the Govee pool thermometer. The process began with installing the Govee app and plugging in the Wi-Fi gateway. With just a quick button press, the app detected and paired with the gateway seamlessly. The temperature sensor itself requires two AA batteries (included), and while unscrewing the cover was a bit difficult, it's clearly designed that way to maintain waterproofing.Although the pairing instructions were provided, I didn’t need them—once I added a thermometer in the app, it paired automatically. I dropped the sensor into the pool and secured it to our steps using the included lanyard. Within a couple of minutes, the app displayed the correct water temperature, matching the sensor's screen which has nice big digits making it easy to read without lifting it from the water. The range is excellent. In my setup, the gateway is in the garage—about 75 feet from the floating sensor—and the connection remains strong. I also appreciate the app’s ability to store historical data and display graphs, which is great for tracking temperature trends. I discovered our electric air-source heat pump starts warming the pool around 15 minutes after sunrise, so now I can save money by turning it off overnight and restarting it in the morning.Despite some reviews to the contrary, I was able to connect the thermometer to our Alexa system without issue. Now, I can ask, "What's the pool temperature?" and get an accurate answer within five seconds. I did notice that Alexa can take up to ten minutes to reflect recent temperature changes, which might explain the trouble others have mentioned. One thing to note for software developers is that this sensor is not supported by the public API that Govee has, this is particularly annoying as Amazon and Google have access to the sensor, but not the rest of us. I've confirmed that this is the case with Govee support.Overall, this is a well-built device that offers excellent value for money. It’s one of the rare tech products that has actually become more affordable over time. I'm hoping it holds up well and that the batteries last; if not, I’ll update my review.

Easy to pair. Works as intended. Will update review after a few months of use.
Easy to setup. It’s much better if you make an account with Govee first when you download the app. Also, better if Bluetooth is on and have your WiFi login handy. Go to the app and add the wife gateway. The instruction manual is simple to understand. Setting up the WiFi gateway first is great. Great range. I plugged it inside the house. After gateway setup, then I setup the thermometer sensors. Best to set it up first close to the gateway. It’s tough to unscrew the sensor open as they should be, to help make it waterproof, as it’s suppose to float. Add the batteries by sliding the battery cover that’s inside the thermometer top. Follow the arrow direction on where to slide the battery cover. This might sound implied but sometimes common sense is not so common. In the app, it will show the sensors. Press the small button that’s inside the thermometer sensor next to the battery. You will see in the app which sensor you pressed as its name would blink. Pick that name/sensor in the app then it’s paired. I changed the name of my sensor by going to that thermometer’s specific setting, then tap the old name and delete and type in the new name. You can also change the reading of the temperature on the top part of the thermometer by pressing the button twice quickly (same button you pressed to pair the thermometer”. It was quick and direct to the point. I also paired it with my Alexa. In the Govee app, I went to my profile. Go to Voice assistant and pick either Alexa if you have prime. It will ask you to link it. It helps if your Govee WiFi gateway is connected to the same WiFi as your Alexa stuff. You can also do google assist if you have google stuff.

Simple Setup And So Many Ways To Get Your Pool Temperature!
Setup could hardly be easier for this pool/spa thermometer especially with so many useful ways to have the temperature reported. You can see your pool temperature in the window atop the thermometer while standing at the edge of your pool but even better, you can check the temperature from your phone using the Govee app. But wait, there's more. You can easily add a widget to your phone/tablet screen (same way you add all widgets) that just sits there updating pool temperature so there's no need to start the app. Here's the kicker. You can also easily add your voice assistant to the mix by using the Govee skill (Amazon Alexa). Now you can simply ask "Alexa, what's the pool temperature?" (assuming you names your device 'pool' and get an instant answer. You will want to use the calibration utility in the app to fine tune your new thermometer. Use a known accurate thermometer or report from your pool's temperature readout for the number. Also, consider tossing a desiccant pack inside the thermometer before sealing it up to absorb any moisture before the electronics can be harmed.
