Does not detect bacteria
I decided to test this kit before I trusted it with drinking water from our well. So I took some water from a creek that runs through our backyard and used it for the first test. Note the pictures. After 48 hours the test indicates that the water does not have any bacterial interaction. The water did not turn purple. In fact it stayed yellow which was the color it started as.The test was conducted per the instructions. I ran two tests. The containers were kept at 82 degrees Fahrenheit.I am returning the kit.

Even the State Agents can not get these cheaper. Same dependability.
Do not guess if the water is safe. Be sure before even tasting it. Once a bacteria enters your lovely warm body, it will not willingly leave. It quickly multiplies, overwhelms the good bacteria offering immunity, and high-jacks nutrients meant to keep your body alive. We are not taking about a mild Montazuma's Revenge. Easy to use, easy to read.
The color change instructions are on the package (green is bad in case you threw the box away). The instructions tell you how to take the sample of water and then shake it. I got the yellow stuff all over the place each time I did it so be careful where you shake it. I think my water is good, but it helps to test it just to be sure.

Good quality, reliable, just remember water can have something OTHER than bacteria in it.
I got these to test some rural water. It's incredibly straightforward. Open the plastic vial, fill to the shoulder of the container with water from the source you want to test. Return the lid, shake to mix the powder thoroughly with the water, then let it sit for 48 hours. If it remains yellow, the test is 'negative' for coliform bacteria. If it's green, it's positive. What I want to emphasize is that your water could be contaminated with something *other* than coliform bacteria. I say this because the person who watched me do the test responded when seeing the bright yellow liquid two days later, "oh good, the water is perfect!" No, no it is not. It's still important to test for the presence of heavy metals or other potential contaminants. If you have not been told and given the test results for your well water or other water sources that it is clear of other non-bacterial pollutants, then you will still need a further set of tests. That's not a fault of this product, it's just something worth clarifying for the sake of health and safety!Otherwise, I have no criticism of this. It's straightforward and easy to use. Exercise basic common sense and caution, dispose of any samples correctly, and if you get a positive result, please be sure to alert everyone who might have previously come into contact with the polluted water as well as your local water and health official, as the case may warrant.

Super easy to use
I love how easy these are to use! All you do is add in the water you want to test, give it a good shake and then check back after 48hours to see if the color is yellow(healthy bacteria) or green (harmful bacteria). I tested my mothers tap water which comes from a natural well that has been on the land since the 1940’s. I also tested her berkey water which goes through carbon filtration but she’s had it for four years and it’s been filtering the harsh well water. Both showed to be free and clear of harmful bacteria which is a great relief! I have yet to try gathering maybe some pond water or puddle water to see if it will turn green but I have six more bottles left so I can give that a try soon. I love that this pack came with eight tests makes it a great deal! If you mess up(which I doubt cause the design has made it really easy to use) you have extras to try again. I am grateful for these testers because it has giving me some relief when it comes to the water we use day in and day out.
