An old design that works well and should prove reliable.
Well-made and should prove reliable. I manage up to 40x read speeds which is sufficiently impressive but I did get a few read failures with some of my old DVD burns of many years ago, but this is to be expected.I haven't done any writing using this drive just yet and so can't comment on this aspect of performance.Overall recommended.

An Important Drive for a Specific Purpose
This drive is one of the very few out there that is listed on the RPCS3 website as being able to dump Playstation 3 discs, albeit with specific software.

The last practical BDXL writer (5.25" bay)
Low power, Low Weight, Firmware can be flashed to unlock speed modes and force it to work at whatever speeds you wish.

Good burner that works well, doesn't have the older Blu-Ray UHD compatible firmware though fyi.
Burner works well in a mac, however it has the newer firmware that means it won't read UHD BluRay discs.

It works,well - eventually
A 25 Gb re-writabe disc at 2 speed took about an hour to back up my music collection - not as fast as I would have hoped but it works.BTW - Cyberlink Power2Go 8 software is included on the driver disc, but you will need more to watch DVD's and Blu Ray's on this.

Amazing Blu-ray burner/player
Optical drive is amazing, reads and burns disc perfectly, not only that it actually reads ps3 discs so you can now copy all your games you bought to your pc/laptop to use with a ps3 emulator.

Blu ray burner which accepts many makes of disks
My previous two blu ray burners (LG) were very fussy about which makes of BDROM it would write on, and for this reason had a huge pile of unused blanks, so it was with some relief that I found that this burner was happy with Verbatim, Kodak and TDK disks which had caused problems with my LG. I only use this for backing up data, not for movies.
