Review of the updated version of this flashlight
There seems to be some outdated information floating around about this flashlight appearing in both the Amazon product description and the reviewer comments. As far as I can determine, this product superseded an older version but the specifications provided by Amazon may apply to the older version of this product. I will do my best to provide currently accurate information for those of you thinking about purchasing this item.First and foremost, this flashlight is not rated at 35 lumens, as depicted and described in the Amazon product description. The flashlight I recently received is rated at 250 lumens in full-power mode and 80 lumens in low-power mode. Rated battery life is 10 hours in full-power mode and 20 hours in low-power mode. Working distance is rated at 265 meters. Impact resistance is rated for a drop of 3 meters. All these specifications conform to the 2009 ANSI FL1 flashlight basic performance standard. This flashlight comes with four Energizer AA alkaline batteries. For additional run time at full brightness I installed Energizer Ultimate Lithium batteries. This flashlight has only one LED, not four as described in the Amazon product description. But let me assure you that this flashlight is extremely bright. However, I am surprised to discover how yellowish the light output is from this flashlight. I have four other decent quality modern LED flashlights at my immediate disposal, and all produce whiter light output than this Energizer HardCase flashlight. Don't confuse the yellowness for lack of brightness - it is very bright. Both ends of the flashlight have black textured pliable rubber overmolding around a smooth olive green ABS shell, ruggedizing it for more severe duty. The grip handle has thinner overmolding in only select areas, which offers no apparent benefit. The power switch is a sealed pushbutton switch. The tail end opposite the LED has a small but STRONG stainless steel belt clip on it, permitting the flashlight to be suspended (pointing down) clipped over either a belt or pocket. The clip also is designed to hang from either a screw or nail head. The tail cap also includes a loop for attaching a lanyard (not included). As stated by a reviewer of the previous version, there are some cosmetic stainless panels on the side of the business end.The flashlight is IPX-4 rated, technically meaning that it is protected from a splash of water in any direction for at least five minutes, and is protected from objects 1mm or larger from entering the casing. While it may survive, the flashlight is not rated for submersion for any period of time, and fine dust might impair normal operation. This is a fairly bulky flashlight, and resembles a butt set used by telephone installers. Battery installation if fairly straightforward, but doesn't get much mention on the packaging. What's more is that the battery installation diagrams on the back of the packaging are inaccurate. There is no longer a battery sled, as apparently used by a previous version. The tail cap unscrews 480 degrees from the central grip handle, and the positive end of all four batteries goes in first. There are several exposed screw heads (some recessed) all over the exterior but don't be tempted to disassemble any other part of the flashlight to get to the battery compartment. The flashlight casts a tight spot beam, inside a large circular flood pattern. At a test distance of 36" the central hotspot is 4.5" wide x 3" high, and the spill flood pattern is a full 50" wide. That is really the best of both worlds, but using the flashlight at extremely short distances may result in over-illumination, even in low-power mode, unless you intentionally point the hotspot away from your subject. The three-way power switch cycles through full power, low-power, and off. The switch does NOT work for either momentary-on or momentary-off functions. This appears to be another change from the previous version of the flashlight. The flashlight is stable when resting in any of these positions:1) horizontally with the switch up for nearly horizontal light output,2) vertically while resting on either end,3) somewhat less stable horizontally with the switch down, for a slightly upward light output anglePackaging amounts to a thick and rigid, flat cardboard sheet, onto which the flashlight is bound by two plastic zip-style cable ties. Batteries are encased in cardboard containers that are attached to the back of the cardboard sheet. Removing the plastic cable ties requires a pair of diagonal cutters or heavy kitchen shears. While not immensely easy, the batteries can be accessed by tearing open a couple flaps using only your fingers. This apparently improved since other reviewers made their purchases.Forget about putting this flashlight in your vehicle's glove box or console storage unless it's very spacious. But it should fit beneath a front seat just fine, and shouldn't slide around due to the grip of the rubber overmolding. I'm relegating mine to garage duty, where it is rugged enough to withstand being thrown into a toolbox full of hand tools. For those who may want to know, this flashlight is made in China, which doesn't excite me. But I will say that this is probably one of the best quality Chinese made items I can remember buying recently. It carries a lifetime guarantee, but I can't comment on just how exercisable the guarantee is, should it fail under reasonable use.I highly recommend this flashlight based on its design, functional features, materials, quality of construction, and presumed durability.

Works about 3 times then dies
Unbelievable piece of junk. From Energizer no less. Bought one. Died shortly after return window. Used literally maybe 3 or 4 times. Bought a second one, thinking it was just a fluke. No. Exactly the same piece of s**t. They need to stick to making batteries, as they have no clue how to make anything else.

Hard as a Rock and Bright as the Sun.
Best flashlight I've had hands down, very few lights these days offer the durability, battery life, and freaking brightness that this flashlight offers. The solid exterior along with rubberized edges will withstand drop after drop, the battery life is through the roof running up to 23 hours on the four included AA batteries, and no joke the brightness and range made my jaw hit the floor. So why didn't I leave a five star review? well even the most perfect of products have their flaws. This flashlight is big and bulky so if your looking for a lightweight everyday carry light than look somewhere else, this is a heavy duty, hard use flashlight for camping and hunting applications, it's not for carrying around in your pocket. The rear of the flashlight screws off quite easily for a weather resistant light, and it doesn't allow it to be screwed on as tight as you want, it has a strict limit to how tight the back can be screwed on which had me checking on it constantly, so if you're a paranoid battery hatch checker like me than get ready for some midnight flashlight inspecting. Once you get passed the size and battery hatch, this flashlight impresses in every other field, so scrape up the $29 and never buy another flashlight again.

Best Flashlight I've Owned! Built to Last and Super Bright!
This is the best flashlight I have ever owned! Before I bought it, I read the reviews here on Amazon and some of the older reviews stated that it wasn't bright and gave the incorrect lumen levels. This flashlight is LED 250 lumens which is super bright and basically lights up the entire room! The flashlight measures about 9 1/2" long and comes with 4 AA batteries. The light has an easy to press rubberized on/off button and two levels of light brightness. When you press it the first time, it's on the highest level, press it again and it's on a medium brightness level. Press it a third time to turn it off. The beam of light has a concentrated circle of light in the center and also emits a dimmer large diameter of light around it. I used it while working in my attic and crawl space with no other lights on and it lit the entire space up well from wall to wall, about 25 feet across.I really love the sturdy construction of this flashlight and that it has a hard casing to protect it from breaking should it fall. I dropped it off the top of the ladder when I was on my roof and it fell to the ground about 15 feet below me and it didn't break! It still works perfectly fine. I also really like the rubberized and grooved ends of the flashlight, which keeps it in place without rolling, especially important if you are using it on the job. It also has a nice metal belt clip to clip it on your pants if you are using it on the job. Additionally, I like the finger grooves on the handle because they make it very comfortable to use. My only criticism is that the battery compartment is not clearly marked as to which direction to insert the positive and negative ends of the batteries, but after a few tries, you figure it out.I liked this flashlight so much that I ordered another one to keep by the bed upstairs and one for my husband to use at work. If you're looking for a high quality flashlight that can withstand rough conditions, this is your best bet!

Company Sent the Wrong Flashlight
I was sent the wrong product apparently. The one I ordered was TUF4AAPE, and I received TUF4AAP2, still a good quality product but does not have the 4-LEDs as it is advertised only one bright LED that has two modes of light output. Not the worse but is still disappointing.
