A good guide
I gave 4/5 for this book, because Brian Ryder's style in abstracts is a bit new to me, and since it is new to me it is a bit hard to catch up with the exercises, although I enjoy doing them and experimenting with them. Other than that all exercises are well explained, besides I was introduced to new techniques in creating textures and effects that I always was wandering about. An excellent book to have.

Five Stars
Really informative especially if trying to go from realistic to abstract. Let your lizard loose 😉.

OK & fairly simple,
It's OK. It has a pretty straight-forward approach to the handful of examples that it illustrates. Mostly for beginners.

Perfect Gift
My sister requested these, as she has begun to paint more often. I found this on her gift list, and she was ecstatic to receive it.

I really love this British painter and enjoy his work
I love Brian Ryder's work and methodology and this non-intimadating excursion into abstract painting is a nice bridge work for the realist painter who needs to stretch the painting muscles a bit.The book is accessable and fun and well worth the money and the subsequent efforts to explore the world of abstract painting using several different mediums and mixed media approaches. As Brian would say; "Lest have a go at it".Enjoy!!

Helpful
I found this book helpful in my quest to move my work from more traditional expression toward abstraction. The presentation is easy to understand, although I am not particularly fond of most of the artwork. After coming across a You Tube video of Brian Ryder, however, I came to appreciate his approach a little more.
