Very good and easy to setup, if you have common sense.
Don't read all the other negative reviews, they are written by people with absolutely no common sense. If you pretension the spring with the tool provided, the pins are going nowhere. Had mine on for over a month with the posty and Amazon delivery dude giving it a hammering every day and the pins are going nowhere.

the holes are not deep enough to hold the pins in place
Excellent product in principle but the holes to take the metal stops were not deep enough so they keep flying out as you adjust the spring. should have returned, but needed to do the job so the answer was to drill the holes deeper so the stops would fit up to the shank. - broke a drill in the process, so be prepared!

Strong, sturdy, cheap!
I purchased this for my mother who has had a new puppy recently and the problem is her gate kept being left open. Luckily her puppy was too scared to jump down the steps at the gate but she will one day explore further so I thought I would get this gate spring to make sure people close the gate behind them. I found this spring to be perfect. Came with the screws which I wasn't expecting for the price but it did which is a huge thumbs up to get matching black screws. Took me about 5 minutes to install on her gate. Once installed you used the handy little lever tool to tension the spring then place a little peg in either end of the spring so it's under tension. It's a very clever idea, the spring is trying to push itself back (unwind) which pushes the gate closed. You can choose how forceful it does this as well, you can make it as light or as heavy as you need just by adding or reducing tension. My mum is very happy and her puppy is safe!

Sturdy but inadequate adjustment pins.
Sturdy spring, however the pins provided to tighten the spring (once spring is fixed to the gate & post) easily fell out. Instead I got round this by just levering the spring to a stretched position, & drilling & screwing the bracket in - awkward though. All in all does the job though and nicely closes the half height chicken gate. Also no instructions provided, quick check on google solved this though.

Rubbish - only one pin supplied that didn't fit properly
This is a rubbish product. The screws are flimsy and poor, the spring is not great quality and it was only supplied with one pin - you need TWO to tension it. The pin supplied doesn't even fit properly it pinged out under tension nearly hitting me in the face.

Works fine no problems
Works well. No instructions but you can youtube 'fitting gate spring'. Follow them and it's just fine. Seems people here are not fitting it properly

Poor design. Failed after a month of use.
I've had this spring fitted to my small wooden gate for a month now and it seemed to be doing a good job but when I opened the gate yesterday the pins went pinging off in all directions rendering it useless. I did recover one of the pins but the other is still M.I.A.. I think they need to drill completely through the ends and put a pin through the whole thing rather than rely on grip achieved by the supplied pegs that are inserted into a hole not much deeper than 1/8 of an inch. Bad design in my opinion.Update: I have drilled through the head and tail and filled some pins that go right the way through. Very stable now.P.S. I made it look like right bodge-up for photo clarity !

Straightforward Installation, but No Instructions Provided
my small wooden gate is only about a meter squared, but I wanted the extra security of a spring to make sure the gate would close and thus prevent our pet terrier from doing a runner from the back garden. As other reviewers have commented here there are no instructions that come with the spring, 4 screws, 2 pins and 1 longer pin for tension adjusting. However, it didn't take too long to realise what was required, and once I had drilled the spring on the inside of the gate, and butted up against the top hinge, it was easy to adjust the tension and pop in the pin to the appropriate hole and let it rest tightly against the backplate. For added security I squirted a couple of blobs of super glue over each pin, as reviewers have remarked how they can sometimes pop out for no reason at all. I also added a blob of WD40 to prevent any possible squeaks or rust contamination. So now I have a gate that closes by itself. I can't comment as yet with regards the continued durability of the spring and the troublesome (for some) pins. But for the moment I am happy with my purchase. It is just a shame that basic instructions were not included as it shouldn't be necessary for someone to go searching on YouTube for help.-------------------------Update 23/05/2020A week in, and the spring is still working very well. However, one important thing I should point out is that it DOES NOT WORK WELL IN STRONG WINDS!Over the last couple of days we've had gales of up to 45 mph, and as a consequence if you keep the gate off the latch, it will remain closed unless a gust of wind catches it and subsequently overwhelms the strength of the spring, resulting in the gate swinging wide open for the duration. This should be born in mind should you have pets or children in your secured garden.
