The rubber tighteners that came with the set of tire chains worked perfect. They installed easily as the instructions said
I purchased an extra set of tighteners for an inexpensive investment just in case. The rubber tighteners that came with the set of tire chains worked perfect. They installed easily as the instructions said. I store the extra tighteners in the plastic tool box case the set of chains came in. The next time I need the chains the tighteners and the chains will be in the same box together. Security Chain Company SZ1176 Tire Traction Chain Rubber Tightener - Set of 2

Better quality than earlier models..
I had a set of Z chains on one of my vehicles several years ago and a couple of seasons in I wound up damaging one of the tensioners. So when I recently purchased a set of chains for my current vehicle I figured I would get an extra set of these at the same time just in case. I will say that while I feel much more comfortable having a back up I doubt that I will ever need to use them since they appear to be made a lot stronger than the ones that came with my original set years ago. So to anyone familiar with and in the market for a new set of Z chains I suggest holding off on getting the extra tensioners and checking them out for yourself and see if you feel the same way before making the purchase...

Fantastic for getting out of steep inclines or declines.
I have used a variety of snow chains and cable chains effectively over the past 40 years in Missouri, New Mexico, Colorado, Utah and especially Iceland during a wide array of snow storms and blizzards. These cables are by far the most convenient for quick installation and superior for temporary traction getting out of the steep and deep. I used these Security Chain Company Super Z6 Cable Tire Chains for a week in Colorado and Utah during the so-called cyclone bomb which dumped 12" of fresh powder daily last week. Since Colorado and Utah tend to be diligent about keeping the roads plowed I only needed to use them to get out of a steep ravine in Colorado and down a steep driveway in Utah and quickly removed them afterwards. The grip is outstanding and particularly useful for my Chevy Express conversion van which only has rear wheel drive with no positrack. I don't recommend using them for driving very far though if you desire driving more than 30 miles per hour. The price to pay for the convenience and extra traction is an extremely bumpy ride and the slack from the three position adjustable wire succumbs to centrifugal force and slaps the fender well. If you live in an area without diligently serviced roads where you need to drive longer distances I recommend against the self adjusting cables that rely on the rubber bungee cords. With all things considered, I regret not looking more extensively to find the old style non self adjusting snow traction cables with cleats. I have used this type with great success and add speeds as high as 75 mile per hour with much less vibration and almost as good traction. I give these cable chains 4 start because they do the job for emergencies and are easier to install quickly then the older style cables I mentioned.

Great snubbers for my Security Chain ZT751 truck chains and SZ129 car chains
We've made it through almost two full winters in NW Washington State and have only had the chains on for a couple of pre-need test runs when there were 2-3 inches of show and ice. The Security Chain tighteners worked great on both our vehicles, especially on my wife's Prius, which has a puckeringly-tight space between the fender and the tires. The snubbers stayed on and in place, and did a good job of snugging the chains.

works good
These work way better than trucker rubber straps, and they stay in place to hold your chains tight.

Worked fine.
High quality. I bought this as a spare for my chains. Never had to use it due to the original one being still in service. Very easy to install and adjust. Probably not something you want to use 6 months a year, but for me, a skier from Louisiana that goes into the mountains 5 days a year, this product was perfect.

Works as advertised!!
I was cautiously optimistic about this product, but found them to work extremely well on my 2-wheel drive SUV, giving steady traction even in a couple of recent ice events. They are quick and simple to install and allow 30mph speeds as advertised...no more. Great for short distances, but not so good for longer ones. No tire damage that I can tell. A great product that I would recommend to friends.

A Good Tightener
Review of Security Chain Company SZ1176 Tire Traction Chain Rubber Tightener. Ordered this as a spare for my snow cable set in case one of the original tighteners fail. This product produces a good tight cable fit that is easy to remove. The original cable set is 5 years old and is used every year without any problems.

Hold well
These are much better than the cut pieces of inner tube and metal hooks

They do work as intended, they’re just not very good.
it’s the only set I could find that had more than 4 hooks. so I’m not going to give them a 1. The plastic clips must be for tiny chains because any normal side links, the hook is too small. Used a drill bit sideways into them to make them bigger. The hook end that receives the rubber could be more rounded, and the rubber is difficult to remove from the hook. I’d give them a 4 if they were cheaper. They’re adequate, but I’ll keep my eye out for better ones.
