Very nice phone!
Just got this "international" version Sony X Compact and love it. A lot of people are concerned that they don't get the Sony Warranty with it. Actually you do, but you'd have to ship it to Sony's European Warranty center for them to fix a warranty issue, not the US center. Postage to anywhere in the EU even with tracking is not very expensive with USPS and Sony will cover the postage back to you to return your phone after it has been fixed. However, for a small fee, you can purchase Amazon's accident protection plan that covers everything for up to 2 years, whereas Sony only offers just a one year warranty on internal parts. Sony doesn't cover falls and accidents which are usually the causes of issues with phones within the first 2 years of use. The international version has a fully functional finger print reader which makes logging in a lot faster. It also has a face recognition log-in feature just like iPhone X which I think is super cool. When you set the camera to its highest resolution, you can take some very nice pictures with it. A lot of details in the photos. I haven't had any speed issues on the T-mobile network in Southern California. The speed is just as fast as US based phones. Provided that the US version doesn't come with a fingerprint reader and the EU version does + is $30 less expensive on Amazon. I think this is the obvious choice. A lot of people are talking about flashing the EU software onto their US-based phones to get the fingerprint reader to work. Some have been successful at this and others have burned their brand new phones. If you want that fingerprint reader, just get this phone. The likelihood of a warranty issue occurring is very low if you don't have issues with the phone in the first 30 days of use. I suggest getting an SD card with it. I got a 128Gb SD card for the phone and have uploaded whole HD concerts and movies and a lot of music. The music playback quality is also outstanding. By the way, the phone is water-resistant, even though Sony claims that it is not. Evidently they got too many warranty calls after their marketing department took some pictures of people snorkeling with some of the previous models. They claimed that for this model to reduce warranty returns from water damage. A technician who owns one opened one up for me to show me what they look like inside and we compared it to the Z5 Compact and the Z3 Compact that he had in his store. The interior water-resistance features are identical to these earlier models that do have the water-resistance rating. So it is water resistant after all, but just don't take a shower with it or go scuba diving. Great phone all around and I would recommend it, especially the EU version with the fingerprint reader enabled. A lot of people are wondering why the US version doesn't have this feature. Evidently it has to do with one of the carrier contracts that Sony pulled out of to start selling non-carrier-specific phones. By pulling out of an exclusive deal too early, they had to give up this feature for some reason. This is what has been implied so far in the press. Anyhow, I love the phone and would recommend it. Videos and photos look great on the screen. The screen is very bright. The speakers are fine. All in all a great phone for the price.

Tragic flaws turn this 5-star phone into a 2-star phone
I got this phone because it is one of the only narrow android phones left on the market with decent specs. I wanted a phone that I can hold firmly and be able to type on with one hand.Overall, I like the phone's specs and features. It would be a 5-star phone if not for some design issues, which I will list below. If you want a full review of its specs compared to other phones, go to gsmarena.A note about the fingerprint reader: it works really well. However, it is disabled for cryptic (presumably legal?) reasons on the US version of the phone. Get the international one if you want to use it (or flash the international ROM, if you are technically inclined and know what you're doing). To get my rating, I started with 5 stars and docked stars for each serious issue:Issue 1: Ads in the notification drawer. Cost: -1 star (I loathe ads, so for me this is really -2, but most people don't care about ads as much as I do and this review isn't for my benefit). Sony factory-installs an app that puts ads for their TV shows and other crap in the notification drawer. You can't remove it unless you root the phone.Issue 2: Annoying corners. Cost: -1 star. I bought this narrow phone so I can use it 1-handed. To do that I need to hold it at the very bottom so my thumb can reach across the whole screen to use the keyboard. When I hold it that way, the bottom corner digs into my palm uncomfortably. Visually, I don't care whether the corners are rounded, but physically I do.Issue 3: Very poorly implemented big brother popup. Cost: -1 star. Sony is clearly trying to cover their legal ass with this "feature". When you play music, sometimes the volume cuts in half and a popup appears warning you that you may cause hearing damage. Now, that's all well and good, but they messed up the implementation so badly I'm going to need a few paragraphs to explain it...If you are connecting the phone to external speakers, the warning makes no sense at all. I use it as a music player in my car. The volume output of the phone is actually quite low. I have to crank the car stereo near maximum just to make the volume the same as the radio is on half-volume. If the warning appeared once and you could permanently disable the it, I would think nothing of it. But you can't disable it.It does not happen as soon as loud music plays. I've tested this. It waits up to 20 minutes or so after you've started it playing. By that time, I'm driving so I can't fix it. Tip: only dangerous idiots look at phone screens while driving. Just don't.And now the clincher: the warning popup gives you "Ok" and "Cancel" options without explaining what they mean. As a public service, I have determined the answer by trial and error, and I will now share this lore with you: "Ok" means "I accept the risk"; the popop closes and you can then manually increase the volume. "Cancel" means "Please, Sony, protect me from myself!"; the popup will close and ***you can't raise the volume again until you reboot the phone***. Yep, that's right, the car stereo is now barely audible and you can't fix it until you pull over somewhere and reboot.Playing music in the car is one of the the primary purposes of my phone. The only reason this issue is -1 star and not -4 stars is because it only happens once every few months, regardless of how loud the music is. I don't know if Sony limited the frequency on purpose or just screwed up their algorithm that badly.

Great phone with excellent features
This is a great phone, for its size, quality, and features. I really like the compact size but didn't want to settle for a lower performance phone. Thankfully, the performance on this phone is excellent, and it looks very nice too. What I like the most is the music app, the best app of the MP3 players type. This, combined with the special headphones that take advantage of the built-in noise cancellation, makes this phone an excellent music player. The camera is very good too, and I also like the fact that it takes micro SD cards, so I don't need to worry about memory space. The only one limitation is that it is not quite water proof as other Sony phones, but given the size and quality it is an acceptable trade-off. Lastly, the battery performance is outstanding, and Sony has special features for even further optimization. Overall, this is an excellent phone with all the necessary features, and I highly recommend it for those looking for a compact size phone.

impressive... will not certainly disappoint Sony fans
the phone is nearly perfect.. fingerprint scanner works like a charm.. I have upgraded to Anroid 7..battery last for a day with mild usage.. on standy it could easily last for 2 days.. the camera is impressive, not mind blowing though.. call quality is fantastic.. the audio quality over headphone is also good if not best.. plays hire(flac) audio without issues.. only wish if it had a better build quality and a good earphone included.. mine came with average mh410c earphone... some unboxing videos shows it to have mh-nc750 included.
