I am a fan.
I am not a real craftsman, nor am I a competent musician. This kit arrived in good condition and I was able to mechanically assemble it without too much trouble, clamping the neck in place was the hardest part. I sanded everything down and gave it the worlds worst stain and poly job, found a wiring diagram on the web and wound up with a very playable instrument.I don't know that I would recommend for accomplished musicians as I can't speak to that level of quality, but for a casual player this is a very capable instrument and you really can't beat the price.

do NOT buy
bought this to build with my 12 year old grandson. absolutely no wiring diagram as well as not one piece of paperwork on how to put it together. No pre-drilled holes. Went to badcatinstruments.com, click on wiring diagram and manuals, nothing. Blank page. If you are not a guitar luthier and have never built your own guitar, DO NOT BUY THIS!

The electronics could have been better and they sent the wrong nuts for the knobs but the finished guitar plays awesome

Avoid Bad Cat Instruments
I just bought this one from Bad Cat Instruments on eBay for $160 right before they deleted the item from eBay and shipped me a guitar covered in glue, once I sanded all that glue back I found out that glue was covering a large crack. As a resolution they offered me $20 then stopped communicating with meThe setup otherwise looks ok, however 2 wire pickups mean you really need an upgrade at pickups.Further research showed that I had missed a lot of bad reviews about them

Nice wood, poor construction
I got this as a Christmas gift, and I finally got around to working on it... I've built a few kits in this price range, and sadly, I can say this kit it "typical".First the good... the figuring on the cap is nice, and sanding job is decent (see the first pic). Now, the rest...After being impressed with the quality of the top, the next thing I noticed that that the nut was missing from the neck. There clearly was one installed at one time (you can see the glue). But it was no where to be found in the box. This is a relatively minor thing, easy enough to buy a new nut and glue it in, but it speaks to the overall quality control. Which brings me to the real reason you should skip this kit...This kit is specifically a flame maple top kit. You buy this one because you want to show off the flame maple top. Unfortunately, while the wood is nice, you won't get a nice looking instrument when done because the glue that should have been used on that missing nut was clearly used (to excess) on the binding. And this means you'll see it when you put any finish on the top. I'm planning on a blue/purple burst finish, but I put black down first (which I'll sand back to make the maple flames pop with the color coats). As you can see, the black stain doesn't permeate the considerable glue that seeped out from the binding, and along the center joint. There's no point in buying/using fine wood like this if you can't show off the grain, and any finish that shows off the grain would show all this glue. The rest of the constructions seems fine. And this guitar would be fine if you wanted to paint it, but then you wouldn't buy flame maple.

Very good kit!
It’s a good kit! Probably want to do some upgrades on the parts. Plenty of videos to walk you through the steps if it’s your first build, just needed some mild fret filing in a couple spots aside that it’s good to go!
