Walking Dead Volume 21: All Out War Part 2 (Walking Dead, 21)
J**.
I watched the TV show first (caught up as of 3/6/2016) before reading and holy crap these are awesome
I've purchased all volumes up to 22 and the TV show has just about caught up to wear I am in the novels. These books are friggen awesome. I don't read much and my buddy lent me VOL 1 after he knew I liked the show. Well, I burned through the first one and then just went on a tear buying 4 volumes at a time...the price is pretty good for what you get out of these. $9-$15 is the range I've paid per novel, I'm not sure why they aren't the same but anyways, I keep buying them none the less. The story was written before the TV Show and the show follows the story but there is some differences. The written story is more violent and graphic then the tv show but the tv show does a decent job of sticking with main ideas. I've noticed that certain plot things that happen in the book also happen in the show but there is a unique twist like a different character it happens to or something like that. Which makes reading these volumes great cuz I have some idea of where the story is going (after having watched all tv episodes) but there are still surprises. If you like the TV show and haven't read these, give it a try and you will get a whole new experience of the Walking Dead story. I'm putting this same review under every volume I've purchased (1-22) so people can see it. go buy these!

End of The Saviors
Finally the war with Negan and The Saviors is over. This has taken a long time....too long. As covered in the previous volumes, Rick has enlisted the help of the neighboring communities to tackle the Savior threat. I'm not sure why assassination never came up as an idea instead of the constant loss of life on both sides. The art is the same, like it or hate it. All of the common locations are well rendered and consistent so that exposition isn't wasted on telling the reader where a particular scene is taking place. The Governor has forever set the standard for how evil an antagonist can be. He was brutal and effective in so many ways, but pride got the best of him. The climactic battle and fallout from the final encounter with the Governor has been one of my all time favorite comic book moments. No one has really challenged Rick & Crew to that level since.Negan had some novelty factor with his own community rules, Lucille, and his repetitive use of the "f" word. Negan is more than shock and awe, like when he shared moments with Carl during his capture.Much of the last volumes has addressed how morals influence the decisions that lead many to stand up against the Saviors. I don't blame them, the deal they had with Negan was rough. As established as Alexandria etc. were, not sure I would've stuck around with everyone dying constantly. There had to be something worthwhile outside of Negan's reach to start fresh.Anyways, it all ends in this volume. Rick is still in his "General" role, with the usual supporting cast of Jesus, Ezekiel, Michonne, and Andrea. Like many WD stories, some major characters die, some new ones are introduced, and some roles change. While I'm glad it's all over and we can move on to the next saga, I was really surprised by the end and where it'll take everyone. I don't review spoiler sites, but already heard that there is a jump in time to the next storyline.I've read from the beginning and will till the end!

In the event you survive the Zombie apocolypse, use this as a guide....
I will soon buy volume 22 and then will own the entire collection until the next one is printed. I don't know if I have ever written a review about the books, so here goes. I started reading these graphic novels in 2008 when a guy I was in school with introduced me to them. I fell in love , although there are some things that are quite shocking and I would much rather forget what occurred. I, like many of the walking dead fans couldn't wait for the show to air.....Now that it has, I can't watch it. I remain a fan of the books because the show is too watered down for me especially since I am already ahead of the show. If you don't mind gore (there's not a lot but when its there, its there), attention to detail, and a great story, then read these books. You won't regret it....unless they give you nightmares....but that's just another way to say how excellent these books are.

War, What is it Good For
These last couple of books about the Negan wars were hard to read. I am not the target audience, senior woman that I am. But anyone who finds fighting and killing abhorrent is not the target of these books. And the lack of versatile vocabulary, especially Negan's, makes him so uninteresting.I am, however, impressed with the translation of the shows. The choices of actors and variety in the plot make the story more than males measuring body parts.I am still impressed with reading comics on Kindle because I can expand the picture and text to see it more clearly.

Thumbs Up!
This is the conclusion of the war. Just like the first part, horrifying new weapons are revealed as the humans show us just how much worse than the dead they are.The ending is what will really surprise you. Kirkman specialises in his shocking twists and sudden moments of terror but now he manages an intellectual or ideological sleight of hand. Negan has been a great antagonist not because he is a bit crazy but because, in a distant way, you can see his point of view and his motivations. Rick thrives on him and his contrasting philosophy and grows as a character and a leader. It’s not weapons but ideas and belief that are the keys to victory. The art is great and seems to have more splash pages than normal. This does feel more as if it is to hit the issue breaks rather than for dramatic tension but more art and less words is welcome. Particularly for a volume emphasising concepts and sociology.Thumbs Up!

A bit boring!
I read the whole series so far and the Negan story was starting to bore me already in the previous book. This one was a disappointment with out of character behaviour for Negan (as was mentioned already by other reviewers) and quite a few shallow characters I don't really care about. The zombies are now totally in the background and almost irrelevant.
