Caution: Will not work with new Traeger grills
Probe wouldn't BT connect to Traeger Ironwood XL. After investigating Traeger's support site, it says Meater and Meater+ will not work with Ironwood or Timberline models. You have to use the new Traeger X Meter Probe. Aargh. If you don't plan on BT to Ironwood, I'm sure it's a fine thermometer. Everyone loves them. It just won't work for me.I will now go search for the Traeger X Meter probe.

10/10 Recommend!
Buy this, it’ll change the way you cook forever. I will be buying several for my family and friends for Christmas this year. Have been over cooking meats all my life, that all stopped when I bought this bad boy. The app is also incredibly easy to use so long as you stay within like 15ft of the probe, you stray to far and the Bluetooth cuts out (which makes sense all things considered).

Not working in two months!!!! Money down the drain!!!
I bought it right before Thanksgiving, and it worked, but I had to have my phone within one foot of the oven to monitor the turkey we were cooking. I used it on a Brisket on December 24 for Christmas. The Meater probe was now having trouble staying connected within close proximity. I should have returned it then, as it didn't connect or work at all on Feb 2, and I am outside the Amazon Jan 31 return date. It has a 1-year warranty according to the Meater.com website, but read this from their disclaimers. "We are unable to issue refunds or accept returns for product(s) purchased from a retail or third-party online store." Amazon should not be selling this product. Read the reviews and look for problems that it will not connect, and the complaint is that you must be very close to the probe with your phone, and that is an understatement. Buy a wired unit and save yourself the disappointment. I tried giving it no stars but you must at least give it a one star to proceed with the review.

Know This before you buy
This is an excellent temperature probe when used properly. I use it whenever I can and it really does yield perfect results! You need to understand that the probe is 3/16" in diameter and must be inserted into the meat 2 5/8". As a result, you'll not be able to use this thermometer with thin meat. Basically, anything less than 1/2" thick won't accept the probe well. And you'll need to be able to insert the probe to a depth of 2 5/8" and have the tip be within an inch of the center so that you are measuring internal temperature. (The temperature sensor is about an inch from the very tip.) Thus, you need to be cooking relatively large pieces of meat. So fish and pork or lamb chops are out.The probe cannot be used under water, so you cannot use it when boiling. The Meater communicates with your phone using bluetooth. This radio wave technology is blocked by solid metal, so you cannot use it within totally enclosed cookers like the big green egg. It works great in my oven because my oven door has a glass window. I have had no problems with communication with my phone within "line of sight" of the probe through the glass in the oven door. I expect that people who have had trouble with their phone loosing connection with the Meater have not kept this in mind. With that said, this item easily earns a 5 star rating. The app is super easy to use, comes with step-by-step training, and provides some very nice graphs of internal and ambient temperature.Regarding the ambient temperature... please note that there is always a dome or bubble of lower temperature air surrounding your uncooked meat. The meat effectively cools the nearby surrounding air. Thus the ambient temperature reported by the probe is significantly less than the oven setting. This is normal and expected.

Range and connection
Before you even try to connect this meater to your phone, I suggest you charge it more than two hours. Mine wouldn't connect to start with. An overnight charge remedied that situation. I have it stuck in a brisket "Point" as we speak. The range on this thing isn't too far, but I know about how far I can get away from it and still stay connected. Maybe 10 feet. It still beats opening the door to the smoker. The display is great and I have it paired with another thermometer and they both are within about 3 degrees. I was going to return it, but I'm keeping it now. For the price, it does pretty good. I think the problems people are having are related to them not knowing what they're doing. I watched some YouTube videos and found out quite a bit.

Where have you been all my life?
Works great! Nice to know both the inside and outside temp. No wires to fumble with. Easy to clean.

Disappointing
I have used the Meater+ before. I got a great deal on this one, but was disappointed .The Meater (original) uses the same app, but has less reliable connectivity. It lacks the Bluetooth repeater of the newer models. 10' and a glass window was too much interface for theBattery life was long enough for an 8 hour cook on the smoker. Ambient temp is not always the most reliable, but the internal reading is accurate. The app has great features like accounting for carryover cooking, anticipated cook times, and an intuitive interface.

Not very impressed
First of all the range is horrible. You can’t take your phone more than 10 feet from the probe. I’m only maybe 15 feet from the grill right now. Another note is the ambient temperature, not sure which is accurate my old school probe mounted in the big green egg or the actual probe. It’s about 100 degrees difference. DON’T BUY THOSE PRODUCT. PURE JUNK.
