The very name of the brand conveys a deep respect toward craftsmanship and considered as familiar by citizens the world-over. So as a “citizen” of the world, we bear the responsibility to help cultivate a culture of positive change and on-going evolution through our craft. We take that mission seriously and steadfastly welcome what the future may bring. As a true manufacture d’horlogerie, CITIZEN integrates a comprehensive manufacturing process from creating individual components to a watch’s final assembly. It’s an artisan’s approach to watch making based on pushing forward the boundaries of technology and leveraging our experience toward exploring new possibilities. One pivotal technological breakthrough was the development of a light-driven watch. CITIZEN pioneered this engineering innovation well ahead of other watch manufacturers as early as 1976, which led to the launch of the highly acclaimed Eco-Drive in 1995. Utilizing electrical power converted from virtually any light source, this extraordinary innovation changed forever the way watches could be powered. Eco-Drive eliminated the need to ever replace batteries, which made it especially beneficial to areas where such specialist batteries were not obtainable. This leveled the field for citizens of virtually every country to be able to experience unrestricted joy of wearing and using a CITIZEN watch. The product development policy, “The Fusion of Technology and Beauty,” remains a constant motivation for us to merge cutting-edge technology with perfection of design beauty, which as a consequence inspires people to strive to be their best at any time. CITIZEN launches a new campaign in collaboration with Wieden+Kennedy, Better Starts Now. This is the simple belief that no matter who you are or what you do, it is always possible to make something better — and now is the time to start doing it. We believe that better and now are both infinite, and that there is always a next ‘better’ and a new ‘now’ in which you can start pursuing it. It was clear from the onset of this project that we are dedicated to this ideal…not to the past but to the present, and all the way we can improve it. To help communicate this belief to the world we have created a new global CITIZEN brand movie, brand identity and brand website that represents out Better Starts Now philosophy. See more

Poor Man's Jaeger-LeCoultre Reverso -- Only Better.
I have a small watch collection consisting of some automatics (Seiko, Orient, Parnis) and another (great) Citizen Eco Drive AT as my daily wear. I have an admiration for higher end pieces but as much as I like them, I simply can't in good conscious spend that much on any watch. Additionally, I don't want to be on the hook for pricey servicing on a Swiss made automatic every few years. Fortunately, watches exist in abundance and there are many, many stylish and well-made affordable options by brands like Seiko, Orient, and even Chinese Parnis homages. If my Seiko 5 ever dies? Into a landfill it goes. (Though it will likely outlive me.) Another benefit is I can enjoy a variety of styles to suit my mood without spending a fortune. One gaping hole in my collection is I didn't own a formal dress watch. I was looking at the Orient Bambino, a fine dress watch by all accounts. But I kept coming back to this Citizen. I usually don't do battery quartz, but this is a solar Eco Drive, so no visits to the jeweler ever few years for battery changes. I also dislike quartz watch's stuttery second hand movement. This negates that annoyance by doing away with it altogether. So this does away with the quartz watch vices. What drew me to this watch over the Bambino was its thinness and its form. A proper men's dress watch should be as thin as possible to disappear beneath the shirt sleeve. Watch makers of yesteryear would tout this spec citing hand-winding movements that were extremely thin as an indicator of watchmaking excellence. In these days of "wrist clocks" there is a dearth of thin men's watches. (Mechanical watches are nearly all automatic requiring room for the self-winding rotor.) A dress watch should also be uncomplicated with a simple dial free of complications. It should not draw attention to itself. The form of this Citizen is reminiscent of the Jaeger-LeCoultre Reverso -- an iconic classic but also out of my price range. Additionally the Reverso has held on to traditional styling, looking like a piece from another era. The Citizen is a modern variation of this thin rectangular form -- all black and simple silver indices. Oh -- and it's less than $100 on Amazon. Some may quibble that it's "too small". I disagree. It's precisely the size a men's dress watch should be. In fact, it wears larger than it looks off the wrist as the width of the dial is hardly larger than its matching black leather strap. It looks like you're wearing a black leather band around your wrist. In short, Citizen has, to my way of thinking, implemented the perfect modern dress watch for men with this piece. Simple, elegant, modern and still manages to be budget friendly. I would not recommend this watch, however, as a daily wear. Rather, this is a dress watch for those occasions when a suit or formal attire is in order. It makes me want to go somewhere where formal dress is required. See you at the symphony.

A Citizen That Almost Floats
Very comfortable and beautiful watch. Extremely light weight and thin. Good watch to wear to a social event, where you don't care what the date is, or the exact time, measured to the microsecond. The only thing that could be a problem, for some people, is the small face size and short band. The face measures 3/4 X 7/8 inches and the band measures 8 inches, from the buckle end that connects to the leather, to the first hole at the other end (including the watch body). It just barely fits me, using the next to the last hole. It would not work for a large wrist. Otherwise, I bought it for a good price, on a daily deal, and I am very happy with it.

Love the styling, but the comfort is a little off
I've been wanting to try one of the Eco-Drive watches for a while now, and decided to give this one a shot when another watch had to go in for repairs. I love the styling and the minimalistic design. I've worn it only a few times , but have already received several compliments. The weight and sizing are nice as well as it's not clunky at all and works well as a dress watch. I've also had no trouble with the functionality as well. It's been running perfectly since I received it. The one thing that keeps me from giving it higher marks is the comfort of the watch. The buckle on the band has some oddly sharp edges to the underside of the clasp and as such tends to irritate my arm by the end of the day. Perhaps it will lessen with time as the band conforms to my wrist, but for now it is not as good as I would like.

elegant, great - but...
My expectation: an elegant looking SOLAR POWERED dress watch that complements my selection of elegant and sporty watches, including a solar powered CASIO multi-function Pathfinder watch. I am getting tired of getting batteries replaced for eight bucks a shot.I selected this Citizen watch for looks.Experience after about two months: It looks great (a bit similar to a RADO 12 times more expensive) and works as expected with the precision of a quartz watch.I take good care of my stuff. So far there are no scratches on the glass. I am not sure however, if the curved glass really is hardened mineral. The only negative is the poor readability in VERY DIM light such as a concert hall or movie theater. It takes some turning and holding it so that the available light shines on the face of this watch. However, it is just a matter of getting used to it. And when I know I will be experiencing very dim light and do not wish to twist and turn my arm, I'll wear one of my other, battery-powered, dress watches. If this slight "inconvenience" does not bother potential buyers, this is a good, elegant looking solar powered dress watch.

Too small to be a men's watch
It looks great in photos but when put on, is way too narrow and small to be a men's watch.Bigger and wider but thinner ( like the stilettos) would make this a great time piece for men.

Stylish, Elegant Dress Watch with a Spot?
I received the burgundy version of this watch for my 5-year anniversary with my employer and was so impressed with it so decided to search for a black version since black would go better with my wardrobe. All the elements of this watch are very nice: soft leather strap, chrome buckle with "Eco-Drive" stamped on it, glossy slim case with chrome hands and dial. All my other watches, except for one, are Eco-Drive so can't complain about that feature. Face is simple yet stylish and not too busy, looks very nice in a suit or your everyday dress shirt and dress pants. My only gripe is the glass has a round spot/stain right in the center underneath the glass that looks like condensation or oil or some kind of manufacturing defect. Thinking this indeed was a defect I returned the watch for a replacement which Amazon immediately shipped the same day. Unfortunately the replacement also has a spot in the center of the face underneath the glass. Since the watch is very nice and fairly inexpensive I decided to keep it, guess I'll have to live with that little spot for now.Citizen Men's BL6005-01E Eco-Drive Black Ion-Plated Leather Strap Watch

Great product
Really like this watch. Have owned many watches over the years; from Omega Seamaster to Seiko Kinetic. This is my first experience with Citizen, and the Eco-Drive in particular. As far as style goes, the watch hits the mark with me. Not too big, very light weight, and presents as shown in photo. Classic design, can be worn with both formal and casual attire. No bells and whistles; doesn't have a second hand or day/date for example. It does have Japanese quartz movement, and does not require regular battery replacement, or constant motion to power the watch. I just took it out of the box, put it on the window sill for about four hours, and it was good to go. Only negative I can see is with the watch band. May be difficult to find when it comes time to replace. The replacement strap from Citizen is quite expensive. Perhaps by the time it needs replacing I will have found a suitable band somewhere else. All in all, love this watch, and would purchase again. Oh, and thanks as always to Amazon for the super fast shipping.

Style and Elegance combined
Having tried this on in the shop and then seeing it online at a fabulous price convinced me to get this watch. The fact that there are no batteries required was also a key factor.Everyone has commented on it and I would highly recommend this watch.

Stylish, Elegant
Eco-Drive means never having to buy a battery. Looks first rate with jeans or formal wear. Thin enough that my shirt sleeve does not catch on it either. Really nice! Frankly, it looks and works great. Impressive.

For thin ladies (Barbie doll types)
It's a small gent's watch which looks like ladies watch. Perhaps it'll look good on Barbie doll type ladies who have thin hands.
