A good compromise
To tell the truth, I got mine with Orange. My previous phone was an Orange SPV so most of my comparisons will be with that.On the plus side:The battery life is definitely better. It's still going strong since I charged it on Wednesday night (today is Sunday).I used to think that the Orange GPRS network was patchy and low powered as my SPV constantly had problems finding a signal. My T610, on the other hand, finds the signal first time, most of the time. I like it's ability to store information about more than e-mail account so that you don't have to constantly set it up if you have more than one e-mail address to check. The T610 has Bluetooth as well. The camera is integrated whereas the SPV, the original at least, has to be plugged in.The T610 is a lot smaller and lighter. It's also a lot more reliable than the SPV (although it can freeze if you type too fast). If you like ringtones and pictures then there are quite a few available for the T610.On the negative side:Like the SPV, the response time from selecting options and, also, the predictive text can be slow. The picture quality is not as good: 288x352 on the T610 versus 640x480 on the SPV. On the other hand, I now have a digital camera so I won't be using the phone camera that much. The T610 can store several numbers per contact (home, work, mobile, e-mail, etc) but I miss the SPV's ability to store more than one e-mail address per contact and to store snail mail addresses.I don't think much of security -- with the SPV, you can set so that you have to enter a security code every time the keypad is locked. On the T610, the best you can do is set it so you have to enter a code every time you switch on.The SPV does have access to msn messenger but I only miss that sometimes. For the battery life, its reliability and handling of GPRS/email, I'm glad I changed. However, I am not blind to its faults.

RELIABLE WITH WHISTLES AND BELLS
For me this is the only handset that gives Nokia a run for its money. It has everything I need and more and for only £89.99 its a bargain. I'm not a big fan of the flip phones and apart from Nokia there are very few out there that are any good - I am so pleased I got this one.The main features I was looking for which this has are:-(1) Bluetooth (I have a bluetooth headset I also bought from Amazon!) and it works a treat(2) I was in USA earlier this year and as it's tri-band it worked there as well.(3) As it has a built in digital camera I came back with some great pictures which can be down loaded and used as screen savers on the phone.(4) Its smart, neat, compact and easy to useThis is a great phone and think more people should know how good it is - which is why I took this time to write this.

Looks nice, but is useless
I've had this phone for a year now, and I've continually had problems with this phone being incredibly slow. For example, a few times now I have been unable to answer phone calls because the phone takes so long to respond to the push of a button. This is particularly annoying when you are expecting an important phone call and the number is witheld. This will also be the last phone that I buy that doesn't have a cover over the buttons; I can't believe that phones are still being made (such as this one) that enable you to dial 999 unwittingly when the keys are locked. This phone is style over funtionality, and has put me off buying another Sony phone in the future.

Major Security Glitch
The Bluetooth setup on the version of this phone that I have allows someone with a laptop and a bit of software to take a copy of all the data on it without my knowing - a mistake in the software implementation by Sony Ericsson - whose response is at first to deny the problem. They then tell you to go to one of their few and far between service centres and wait half an hour to get the firmware updated. Sorry - I don't think you understand the idea of customer service guys!Otherwise - the screen seems hard to read in daylight - the metal casing looks nice but gets chipped easily - and the joystick seems intent on taking me online at every opportunity. Apart from that it seems OK.Overall simply not of satisfactory quality in my view.

seriously flawed
Lots of nice bells and whistles on this phone, looks cool too and all that but it's all outweighed by one design flaw:You can connect to the WAP network on this phone very easily - too easily - either by pressing just ONE button - or by hitting the joystick. This means the every time you put it in your pocket without remembering to lock the keypad - easily done - it's VERY likely to dial the network AND to stay connected until you discover it, perhaps hours later - a bit more serious than with most phones, which, if they dial a number accidentally will only end up getting you billed for the time it takes the person on the other end to hang up.Also, pay no attention to the extravagant claims made for the battery life - I find I have to recharge every day or two, just like my previous phone, and that was the main reason I changed models. Very disappointing.
