The Rubaiyat of Omar Khayyam for Students of Persian Literature

the best version of the rubaiyat
This version allows you to go deeper into the original meaning of the poems. Forget every translation you read before

Good translations, bad transliteration
The literal translations are good; it also contains FitzGerald's versions for some of the poems. The notes could be more illuminating. My main problem is with the transliteration. It uses a non-standard scheme, there are inconsistencies and quite a few typos (though I've seen worse). Also, writing the transliteration for a poem should take into account the scanning of its metre, which it fails to do on several occasions. The printing/layout is okay, but could be much better with a nice nastaliq type, or at least by using half-width spaces when appropriate.

LOVE this book!!
I absolutely LOVE this book! As the author mentions, this book is ideal for people who can read some Farsi, but they're not totally fluent. I just love how Mr Amouzgar has included the pronunciation of each quatrain (in English), along with the Persian original, and the English translation (which by the way is far superior to other translations). The pronunciation (written in English) is the key to many people like me because once they're guided by this, they can read the Farsi version a lot better and then learn the meaning using the English translation. Brilliant! My only request to the author: can you please do the same for Divaneh Hafez and Divaneh Shams? BRAVO!!
