Dr. Spock's Baby and Child Care 8th (eighth) edition Text Only Paperback – 2004

Regardless of new books on child care that have come out, and I have read dozens over the last decades - this one is tops in my book. Spock was a caring doctor from the old days, full of time-honored wisdom and good health advice. Over the years he's been criticized for this and that, but actually times continue to change, and some of the criticisms made in the 70s - 90's, such as about bedtime routines, and eating habits, have faded away to be replaced by 'new' ideas similar to his original ones. He was a sensible person who tended to transmit good humor and a sense of realism about children - how lovable they can be, and not be at times, and he covers so many subjects I continue to think most parents can get good guidance from his books overall.
