This book is for everyone!
This is a fantastic book. The keys and principles it teaches are very applicable in any kind of work setting. I work from home and am a full time student, and found that the concepts of MAGIC (meaning, autonomy, growth, impact, and connection) really helped me become more engaged in work, school, and even other unexpected areas of my personal life.Engagement is a concept I wasn't very familiar with before reading this book, and I loved how clearly it explained each key principle. This book is written clearly and simply, with real life examples that help solidify each concept. I would highly recommend this book to anyone, regardless of whether they are currently in the workforce or not, because becoming more engaged in any area of your life will help you be more intentional in your interactions, as well as find greater purpose and joy in all that you do.

Meaning, Autonomy, Growth, Impact, and Connection (MAGIC)
I really like how Dr. Maylett encapsulates the concept of organizational behavior into an easily digested manner. The examples are very clear, and the concepts are broad enough to apply to any organization. What I really got out of the book was the importance of employee engagement. If you are an employer, employee, or know someone who is, then I recommend that you study this book. From the examples given in the book, and the extra research that Dr. Maylett inspired me to conduct beyond my reading, I've really become convinced that improving employee engagement will drive overall organizational effectiveness. When I say organizational effectiveness, I mean both financial success and the way that the financial success is achieved. When an organization puts effort into making their workplace a good place to work, employees are going to put their heart, mind, and energy into making the organization successful. This directly allows the organization to go about their purpose in the way that they want to; which is a big part of what it means to be an effective organization.I would also say that this book promotes introspection as to one's own level of engagement. As I read about each of the 5 points in 'Engagement MAGIC', I asked myself how I was doing in each of the 5 areas. In the book you'll read about how the responsibility of engagement is a 50-50% split between employers and employees. This book made me analyze how well I was delivering on my part of my own engagement at work, and allowed me to make plans for how to improve. I have been improving in my employee engagement, which has been bringing me success both on my projects and in my relationships at work!Overall, I highly recommend! I hope you enjoy this book!

Very Interesting and Useful Book!
This book brings up a lot of concepts that I wish were addressed more commonly in the workplace. The book is written in a way so that everyone can understand it. It provides valuable data to back up its arguments, and fun stories to help show principles. My favorite chapter was probably the chapter on connection. It will be really interesting to see how Covid and doing a lot more virtual work will impact human connection in the workplace. I think that this book has some concepts on connection that employers can use to make sure connection is still possible even in virtual settings. This book is also useful for gauging your own engagement. It discusses how engagement is not just the employer’s responsibility, but how the employee plays a part as well. I personally found many different ways I can improve my own engagement in this book.

A guide to finding fulfillment
Whether you're a business owner, an employee, or a student, this book helps readers to understand the components of finding engagement optimal flow and fulfillment. The title MAGIC stands for meaning, autonomy growth, impact and connection. These components and their descriptions can help any individual to understand what to change and what to focus on in order to feel more fulfilled in your daily work.I like that this book feels conversational and relatable. The everyday language flows and it is easy to get caught up into this book. Normally I get bored when I read self-help books or business books, but this is an engaging read. I recommend it to anyone who wants to learn more about Organizational Behavior or about feeling more engaged.

Informative and easy to understand
This is a great book for people in the work force and for people in general. It focuses on five keys they have found to be useful in engaging people. Those five keys make up the acronym MAGIC: meaning, autonomy, growth, impact, and connection. The material is not presented in a way that claims it’s the one way to fix any engagement issues but rather presents you with new tools to increase engagement in your organization. It also equips you with tools for improving engagement in yourself as you go through different jobs. The book goes in-depth on each of the five keys and includes a conclusion at the end tying the importance of all of them together and how to tell if engagement is happening in your organization. It also does a great job at defining autonomy which frequently has different meanings to employers and employees. The book is easy to read and flows very well. Definitely would recommend especially if you’re in management or are satisfied with your engagement as an employee.

Love that OE can be backed with data.
As a very analytics and numbers focused individual, soft skills like organization effectiveness and workplace engagement are somewhat more difficult for me to get a handle on compared to many. Tracey Maylett gives an easy intro for someone less familiar with the topic. What rang true to me was the extensive amount of research that backs up his claims, including a survey of 30 million employees of which he refer to numerous times. Good and easy read. Would also recommend the BYU Provo class on Organizational Effectiveness that is also taught by this author.
