Simplify your barbecue
I use this on a Kamado Akorn and it works great at regulating temperature. I cook big chunks of meat like pork butts and beef brisket 12 to 14 hours. This is pretty much set and forget once you get familiar with it.Update: four years later this thing is still going strong! My Akorn cooker rusted out a couple of years ago and the photo is the 55 gallon drum that I converted to a smoker. The IQ110 works great and keeps accurate and consistent temperatures.Update: 5 years later and it finally quit working. This has been a great value for the money I spent on it. I would buy new one today but it's not available. I'm going to have to do some research to see what's next but this one has been great.

This thing is the BOMB for the Akorn Kamado!!!
This pit controller works very well with my Chargriller Akorn Kamado. I am sure it would work well with any other brand of this style cooker too. I have cooked between 225-240 for over 15 hours straight (and still had coal left) using this on numerous occasions. I use a Maverick to monitor my temps and it is great as well.1. start your fire and get your grill ready for the meat2. turn on iq110 and get the temp probe positioned on the grill grate3. Do not put the blower hose in the vent yet!! Set the temp dial to 50 deg below desired temp4. Let the grill temp raise SLOWLY5. before up to temp add your meat6. It will usually over-shoot your first desired temp setting. Once this happens bump up the dial to desired temp7. Once to desired temp - install the blower hose8. adjust top vent to under the #1 setting9. set the blower box dampener to 1.5-2DONE.I now start my cooks before bed time and go to sleep in confidence. It makes smoking meat an EASY task!Tip- it seems to control a tighter temp with Stubbs natural briquettes than any lump I have used. I saw the "ring of fire" method online but there is NO need for that.

The IQ110 makes the Akorn Kamado ovenlike for some great brisket
Great temperature regulator for the Akorn Kamado! Granted the Akorn is already fairly temperature stable however with the iq110 becomes ovenlike just set and forget. Decided to put the iq110 to test with a 7.5lb beef brisket cook 7.5hrs which came out perfect.5:30 lit up the fire starter in the center of the coal basket full of lump coal, leave the cover open and let the fire starter practically burn out6:00 7.5lb(3.4kg) brisket on at 250F(121C) (the brisket sat out for 1/2H after overnight in the frig with 1/4cup kosher salt/fresh ground pepper each and a light dusting w/fajita seasoning, note target kamado cook temp of 250F(121C) and meat of 195F(91C)7:00 iq110 stabilizes along with vent setting.(about .75 on kamado top air vent, iq110 settings at 260F(127C) and air 2.12:00 check finds meat at 190F(88C), decide not to boat and leave as is.14:30 meat temp at 200F(93C), leave brisket in kamado, disconnect iq110 close down air vents16:30 take brisket out of kamado.(note used external maverick meat thermometer to confirm meat temp)Summary: I like it and give it a big thumbs up, buy it. Can use a full load of lump coal to start with a regular weber type fire starter. Simple to operate the iq110 is quiet with colored leds and the sound of the pulsing air fan which means you will need access to AC.

So-So
This is an early review as I've only tried to use it twice. The first time I didn't believe it was controlling at the right temperature. It appeared to be controlling about 80 deg low at 325 deg F. I was comparing it to the temp gauge on my barbecue lid. I have since figured out it was right and my gauge on my barbecue was way off. This was good to learn. The second time, the temperature ran away, probably because I was in a bit of a hurry. I think it would be best to give this thing lots of time to stabilize before putting your meat on. It would probably take over an hour to really get on control. I'm sure, when I've used it more, I'll link it a lot.
