Is there a pump I can use instead of the one it comes with as I'm having problems with this one?

No I don't think there is another pump. Your issue might be because of the magnet in the pump, sometimes when I've cleaned it out I plug it in and nothing happens as the magnets aren't aligned. Always make sure you have water in the filter before you switch on and poke the impeller with a pencil and it starts! Hope this helps

Do they come with uk plug as I live in the uk

No it comes with european two pin plug. Can use shaver adapter but would recommend replacing plug with a standard UK 3 pin plug as I have once you are happy that the unit works properly.

How does this fit with a tank with a lid?

I had to modify my lid ie. Cut a bit off the side to fit it on.
