Finally a good and accurate docudrama chronicling Hannibal Barca's astonishing military career.
Great docu-drama charting Hannibal's military career. Don't expect a major motion picture like Gladiator or Braveheart but this works to its advantage as it much more historically active in its narrative and the period costumes are correct for the early Roman Republican period which is something you don't always see. As far as seeing Hannibal and depictions of the second Punic war this is as I think is as good as you are going to get until something like the brilliant Rome HBO series is produced or a major motion picture picture is made which I fear is a long way off.

Hannibal'liciousness
If you like factual drama documentary style programs that are true to history and especially of the Roman period, and with good actors and battle scenes this is a must for you collection! It charts the rise of Hannibal of Carthage (North Africa) who just like Spartacus defeated many Roman legions and could have defeated Rome itself if he had made the right choice. Alexander Siddig (Star Trek DS9) portrays Hannibal brilliantly and brings his character to life.Over 60,000 Romans were killed in one battle against Hannibal and for 'ten years' he and his army roamed Italy taking on every and all legions they threw at him and defeated them all.I sincerely hope that someone makes a Gladiator type film of Hannibal becasue the scope for the battle scenes is literally quite mouth watering as it would be for a modern film depicting Spartacus. It is incredible that a General such as Hannibal was only defeated because corrupt and jealous politicians in his own senate betrayed him but even then he came to their aid when Rome attacked Carthage itself!

Nothing is impossible.
A great story of one of the more improbable feats ever achieved by man. It was well written and well acted and I enjoyed it greatly. For anyone with a historical bent to their DVD taste s I can guarantee that this is for you.

Excellent docu/drama
I remember catching the end of this programme some years ago on the tv and thought how good it was then. So when my daughter opted to study GCSE ancient history and the topic of Hannibal came up I thought I would order it. We both watched it and thoroughly enjoyed it. The documentary side added to the story, while the drama carried the tale along, helping you to understand the motives behind the man who is mainly known for his elephants.I would recommend this DVD even if you aren't studying ancient history!
