So I know there are different grades of stainless with some being magnetic and some not at all. I honestly didn’t pay close attention to the grade of these screws before I bought them but my usual “test” is whether or not they’re magnetic lol. These being 410 grade are quite magnetic to my surprise, I’m used to whatever grade, either 304 or 316, we use at work which have no magnetic properties.Either way I wanted these for being black and hopefully corrosion resistant. The self tap feature is cool for light work, thin sheetmetal and such. Some reviews slamming these screws for failing to drill holes in various metals need to calm down. Self tapping screws are not high quality drill bits. Depending on the material you plan to use these with you might want to plan on drilling pilot holes first. I've never owned a set of “stainless steel drill bits” if that’s even a thing, so the capability of a self tapping screw I’m sure is limited.

Hard to find black coated self tapping screws that don't loose some of the coating when used. These seem to be the ones I can use and not have to worry about coating chipping off or wearing off when screwed into panel. At my shop there is no margin for error or issue down the road with cars customers pay us 100's of 1000's of $$$$ to build, restore or customize - No Product gets used in the shop until it proves its worth...so far these are on the top of a VERY short list....Two Thumbs Up -- Recommend Buy Em.....

When I bought these, I was a little bit worried that maybe because of them being stainless steel, they might easily fall off my magnetic Phillips head driver bit, which would get very frustrating. But after receiving these screws and using a dozen or so of them to drive screws through stainless steel sheet metal and into aluminum, that has NOT been an issue at all. Contrary to what some people think, not all stainless steels are non-magnetic. Some are, and some aren't. So don't think that being magnetic means that these aren't stainless, because they most certainly ARE. I was also a little bit concerned about whether or not these screws, being made of stainless, would be hard enough and sharp enough to be able to self tap into stainless steel, but to my pleasant surprise they worked exceedingly well. I was drilling into a commercial Manitowoc stainless steel ice machine panel, and these screws did not even hesitate to bite right into the stainless. And sometimes also one of the problems that you can have when you use stainless steel screws is that they can snap off when you drill into something kind of thick. The aluminum that I was drilling into behind the stainless steel was probably about 2-3 mm thick, and I did not have any issues with this at all, so again I was impressed with that result as well. I can't make an honest evaluation about corrosion resistance, since it's only been a week or so, but even the magnetic grades of stainless steel should resist corrosion better than just plain steel screws. If you are going to need screws to resist very corrosive environments like salt water or acidic areas, you will likely need a very high grade of stainless that is softer, non-magnetic, and harder to deal with because it can break easy, dull easy, and doesn't stick to your drill driver. But these are perfect for most outdoor applications where rain and sun are the biggest environmental wear and tear factors. And you can't beat the value either.

Was fasting wood to sq tubing. When first started using the screws, was breaking them constantly. Then remembered to use soap on them before using them to drill the hole.After applying soap had no issues with breaking them.
