What material is the bone folder made from? Is it actually bone or something else?

In days of yore, and still available if you look specially, a 'bone folder' was made of actual bone (or bamboo in Japan). Nowadays it's almost always made of rigid plastic, or teflon, etc. If only there was a vast international information repository available to all that you could instantly look up 'bone folder' on any computer or smartphone :-) Some reckon that plastic is superior to real bone because real bone might have rough bits or have unsmooth impurities.
