sweet, and umami-laden sauce gives dishes a unique
In Vietnamese, nước mắm means literally “salted fish water.” Red Boat "nước mắm nhi" is the secret ingredient in South East Asian cooking. The savory, sweet, and umami-laden sauce gives dishes a unique, rich and satisfying dimension.Red Boat is an all-natural, first press, “extra virgin” Vietnamese fish sauce. It does not contain added water, preservatives or MSG. Made from a two hundred year-old, chemical free, artisanal process, Red Boat uses only the freshest cá com (black anchovy), salted minutes after leaving the sea then slow aged for over a year in traditional wooden barrels. Red Boat anchovies are sourced exclusively from the crystal clear waters off the Phu Quoc Island archipelago. I purchased this sauce for an Asian recipe that called for fish sauce, and this one is highly recommended by professional chefs. It gives a great flavor for Caesar salads and other Asian dishes, and is the best I have used so far. A little goes a long way with this sauce and I would highly recommend its use in any recipe that calls for the use of fish sauce.

The Absolute Best Fish Sauce!
This is so much better than any other fish sauce available that I have tried. The name "fish sauce" is very off-putting in Western culture, but it adds a certain depth of flavor that can't be replicated, and surprisingly doesn't make your food taste fishy at all when used in most recipes. This is the best fish sauce I have found because it is extra virgin, first press, and only made with 2 ingredients. The ingredients are just black anchovies and salt. It is nice and pure without any of the junk (added water, MSG, preservatives, etc...) you find in other brands. This is the only fish sauce I buy anymore. It is perfect for curries, and we even use it to make our own Worcestershire sauce which we put in tons of dishes from hamburgers to bloody Marys.I highly recommend keeping this on hand as a kitchen staple.

The Real Thing - finally!
Okay, THIS is fish sauce! REAL fish sauce! It is amazingly rich, and no wonder. It only has two ingredients, which is as it should be. Fish sauce should NEVER have more than: anchovies and salt. That's IT. Totally worth the somewhat higher price if you want to make a really great tasting dish. You don't have to use much of this fish sauce to help you get the right balance of sweet, sour, salty tastes in a real Thai recipe. Lesser fish sauces may leave you disappointed (as they did me).Not affiliated, yadda yadda

excellent
Yeah, it is very good. The only thing is, it's too pricey. I can get a delicious fish sauce in the store for only $1.99. This is way over priced. That's why 4 stars. Since I found the fish sauce 10 times cheaper and just as good, and more contents, I don't think I'll buy this one again.

Great to have for AIP/Palo recipes
I purchased this as it was recommended in auto-immune protocol (AIP) / Paleo recipes. I had never cooked with this before, but have enjoyed the added vest to the recipes. For me a little (a few dashes) goes a long way, so be careful at first. The bottle states just two ingredients- black anchovies and salt. By salt they mean 1 tbsp has 1.43 grams of sodium. So if you have high blood pressure consult yourself / health care provider. Otherwise the tbsp has 15 cals, no fat or carbs and 100 mg potassium, and 4 gram protein. Made in Vietnam and refrigerate after opening.I am happy with having some additional flavoring while trying to accommodate the AIP/Paleo diet

Other fish sauce brands need not apply
This is the best fish sauce. Hands down. I make pho almost weekly and use a lot of fish sauce. I have tried other brands in a pinch, but nothing comes close to the depth of flavor achieved with Red Boat! I’ve repurchased it from Amazon many times and have had no issues with the glass bottle breaking in shipping. Add to cart!

Recommended by the author of my new cookbook and was great in a new recipe!
I purchased a new cook book called Nom Nom with healthier paleo options and an asian spin. I had fish sauce in my fridge that I had cleaned out when I purged outdated condiments; it was probably only used for A recipe in the past. I used the Red Boat sauce for a new recipe that tasted great. I can't honestly say that it was the brand of fish sauce that made it great, but I can't say that it didn't either. I don't know the difference between other fish sauces… however as it came recommended by the author steering me toward better tasting healthy foods I conclude that it is a healthier alternative to others available. I like to think what I'm putting in my body won't hurt me later, and for that I recommend it!

Traditional Thai experienced cook
I always used Squid brand fish sauce for all my dishes but then discovered Phu Quoc a few years ago. I was just turned on to Red Boat by a friend and although it is expensive, it is well worth the few extra pennies per serving. Red Boat brand has a robust flavor profile without the harshness of many of other the traditional brands. I continue to use Phu Quoc in my curries etc... that it is those mixed with many other ingredients, but if I'm doing dipping sauces or salads Red Boat is my "go to" Fish sauce. If you try this fish sauce in a side by side comparison you will understand the justification for the price difference.
